So the Irish ads version of Paramount has launch and is bizarrely widescreen. Yep - eveything is streeetched across the screen just like those ones you see in the electrical shops where they haven't a clue how to set a widescreen set !! It's a 4.3 image stretched so everyone looks fat and short !

To make matters even worse the analogue picture on NTL is a 4.3 image stretched to widescreen in a letterbox. It looks hilarious on a widescreen set.

    Are these people idiots ?

And what's happened to RTE's widescreen ads ? They announced they'd be going widescreen for ad breaks last week.

    And what about TV3 ?

Is it really so hard to get widescreen right ?

what about the DOG's on the RTE chnls, they seem to like staying in the widescreen position even when the prog. is in 4:3

The video technician's in RTE really seem to know the stuff, huh.

I've sent an e-mail to Sky about it (not sure if they're the right peopl but I don't know how to contact Paramount).

Hopefully they'll cop on and someone will flick the right switch - or even better, maybe they'll start proper widescreen broadcasting of some programme content.

Oh well - at least they seem to know what I was taking about. anyone want to phone Paramount?

    "Dear Charles

Thank you for your email about Paramount broadcasting in 4:3 stretching to 16:9.

Although Paramount broadcasts as part of the Sky digital platform, it also operates as an independent company, therefore, Sky has no involvement with the broadcasting of programmes on this channel. Please contact them direct on 0207 318 6400 for further assistance.

I regret I am unable to assist you further. Thank you for taking the time to contact Sky.

    Kind regards
