ok im guessing this is the right place for this

basically we did up the garage in the back garden for a family member to live in and to avoid having them in the house all day we arranged to have sky install a multiroom box out there but the problem is that they say that it needs to be connected to a phone line

they seemed abit sketchy on the details but i was wondering if you could just have it connected to the house landline via a really long line (around 30 metres at least, could be upwards of 50) while it does whatever it needs to do for installation

the current main box we have doesnt have that requirement so i dont really understand the new ones having it as a monthly line rental on what is essentially a granny flat would suck just for some decent tv

alternativly could we swap the new box with the old one as the old box is relativly near the phone line in comparison

enough bladdering, hope you guys can help

Thatshould work fine. When the engineer is commissioning the system it need a live phone connection.. When he is gone disconnect it if you want..

bad advice , if its multiroom it needs to be connected permanently unless you want to pay full price for the second subscription.

are you sure? then another option would be to use a plug in phone extension that runs trough the mains!

Tony is correct, I got two letters in from Sky telling me about both my boxes were not connected to the same phone line, 1st letter very polite, 2nd a bit stronger, also informing me that if this was not corrected I will be charged €62.50 for both subscriptions!! i got one of the oneforall wireless phonelines from P0wer City in fonthill ( €95 ), also I had my main box for 2 years with no telephone connected and no letters, it's to make sure both boxes are in the same house and that your mate is not availing of your second mirror subscription and " renting " the box from you.

Ah that makes sense! I was thinking of the normal connection where they insist on a phone connection initially....
