Whats my system worth?

I am tempted to sell my PC at the minute, as technology has moved on but I dont know if I should I would like to know what my system is worth before I do decide to sell it, I really have no idea what it would be worth as I spend more time ooogling at the latest kit than paying attention to what mine is worth.

Its spec is basically the following
    -AMD xp2600+ processor
    -Gigabyte GA7N400pro 2 mobo
    -1Gb ram (2 512mb sticks)
    -Geforce fx5200se graphics
    -CDrw drive
    -DVD drive
    -Keyboard
    -optical scroll mouse
-Copper silent 2tc heat sink on the processor (nearly totally silent)
-400W PSU with silent 12cm fan
-120Gb 7200rpm seagate baracuda hard drive
    -Floppy drive
    -4USB ports
-Modded Case with LED blue pannel and UV light and UV reactive cards in the system, it is an easy access case with only one thumb screw to open the whole lot up can be all appart in under 20seconds.
    -19" monitor (CRT)

Would people give me an idea as to how much this machine is worth? And would someone also tell me how much I would make for selling all the bits, as I am fond of the case and may decide to build another system in it and keep the case.

Nice specs, if you can't sell it whole, sell it piece by piece on ebay.co.uk

500-600. Put it in the buy and sell if you want to make any thing resembling the price you paid for it.

Interesting that this place valued a lower spec machine bar processor at more than the above prices.

This site, another computer, on the boards here. I dont think I will sell it looking at the prices. 400 for the spec thats on it, its a custom built machine but that should not make a huge difference, it is well done up.

Could have posted a link to the other PC...

PC's fall in price rapidly. Most people here are looking for bargains, so its a buyers market not a sellers one. You'd do better putting ads in Buy and Sell or local shops, papers etc. As you're likely to find someone clueless about PC's there. Equally you might find some one who is casing the house to rob it. Whereas most people on the boards will be PC hobbyists.

I would say about €500 - €550, the gfx card is fairly crap so anyone who buys its and wants to play any of the newer games(at decent res & fps) will need to spend another few hundred quid on a gxf card. Apart from that it’s not too bad. Would probably sell easier on the buy & sell.

Thats because this machine is designed by me to do well at image editing, not been made up to play games, well the occasional command and conquer but nothing graphically intense.

Still the GFX card is not a good one wel it was a year ago not now , best bet split the system sell it here -
Or pop it on the buy and sell for around 400-pushing it at 600 no more than that.

I know that by your standards it may be fossilised but for a photographer it suits fine. Thanks for the price check.

OK dont want to clutter this site up with another post so reusing this one, will this system play halflife 2 at a reasonable rate?

I'd say it would be able to run HL2 on a low resolution and lowish details in the graphics department.

If its any consideration I got Doom3 working fairly well(800x600 & Med Detail) with a P4 1.7GHz/768MB RAM and a 5200 as well.

hmm maybe its time to upgrade the GFX as 800x600 is a bit dull on a 19" CRT usually at a lot higher resolution.

Yeah dump the 5200 and get a 6800GT for €250.
Well worth it as your system is otherwise fine.

Zuma I cant afford that much to splash out on a card. So what can I pick up cheap as in 2 months the system is being given away when I leave the country. I want something that will play halflife2 at my usual gaming resolution of 1200x 1024 with a decent quality.

I've a similar spec machine and would want 450+ for it...

altho I honestly dont think I'd get it on here as people just don't bite when pcs like this go on sale... and I've always thought buy&sell folk were put off buy anything thats not Intel

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭zuma

Get the 6800GT and take the card with you when you leave?!?

Go with a ATI card though for HL2....probable an old 9800...check komplett for prices.

A 6800 as I said isnt viable as I will get a laptop when I leave and it will be fast enough to play halflife so therefore all I want is a stop gap measure.

On boards.ie, if someone bites, they don't want to end up with a mouth full of sh1t, hence why nobody will pay through the nose for what is essentially a crap pc.

You may as well get a brand new Dell with a 3 year warranty.
