I am looking for some sort of stand that I can use to take macro photos of things on the ground. I have a fuji finepix s7000.

Ideally something like a small copy stand on legs or with a hole in the base but i don't seem to be able to find one. I'm thinking of buying a clamp like the one picture and attaching it something as pictured in my diagram but does anyone have any better ideas.

a small tripod is all you need surely?

I would have thought so too.. while your idea with the clamp and the wood may be viable, I wouldn't want to be using that kind of setup for any kind of lengthy exposure.

there are some very flash tripods out there that you can setup in practically any way imaginable for macro's and the likes but they're most certainly overkill for your needs. Go with some kind of decent smallish tripod.
