roaming or using a local SIM?

for a start, here are details on the Australian networks:

you're grand then - Australia uses the same GSM bands as we do (900 and 1800) - you can check with your operator which roaming partner are available to you over there (and more importantly how much it costs!)

when you are over there you can determine which operator is available/best for you to subscribe with

p.s. if you're doing one of those 1 year working holiday visas and going through USIT they can organise a pre-pay SIM for you before you go
