Just got back from the match. tongue.gif
Honestly it was the best match I've ever been to. The crowd was electric and there were grown men kissing each other @ full time!!

Admitely we rode our luck @ times but C'mon Give it up for the boys in Green wink.gif
    ire-v-neth.jpg
    BTW.....

The seats I had we're pretty good & the Dutch Players & Officials were right next to us. Guess who was sitting beside each other 2 rows back???

The Nandrolene Boys....Davids & DeBoer. Supicious Ehhh!!???
    DeBoers Girlfirend (wife??)....
Talk about my jaw on the ground!!

Anyway what did everyone think. Even if it is only the playoffs we end up in we're drawn against the Asian Qualifiers so we should qualify!!

I thought it was a oretty good match.
I honestly didn't think that we would win, and i groaned when i saw that McAteer was on at the start. But he proved me wrong and scored a great goal. Probably the most important goal of his career.
Was is just me or did any one else think that it was quite unbelieveable that holland ,with 4 top quality strikers on the field at one point, couldn't score.

Absolute storming game...[jealous streak] you just had to scan in the ticket and mention de boers burd tho didn't you!!!..hehe [/jealous streak]. I think Keane more than deserved the MOTM award i mean there wasn't a blade of grass he didn't cover and that tackle on Overmars in the first minute or two was a classic. McAteer done very well, i was surprised the ex-liverpool drop out even played but Mick's decisions paid off...there wasn't a player on the Irish side that you could say a bad word about.

As for the Dutch yet again they've shown us some of the best players in the world but they just can't gel. Toward the end of the game they had 4 world class strikers on and still couldn't score in a bucket of pussy. As the saying goes

    "'WAN IRELAND!!!"

    Great performance.
Keane was a collosal (as usual)
    but...
    -Gary Kelly (no brainer)
-Matt Holland (played like them!!-where was he??)
-Steve Finan (off form today-good prospect)
-Harte (quite game- still makes too many defensive errors)

    Other than that, V.good smile.gif

    a heart stopping game

i thought we were in for a good solid thumping. the irish lads did exactly what was necessary to stop the dutch and that was not try to out play them. i too thought duff should have gotten the MoM. stam was visibly frustrated because duff was too much for him. there have been and still are alot of cpt. fantastic haters out there but credit where credit due.

if we only make the play offs... and then we meet saudi arabia... the travelling supporter wont be able to drink. will they?

What a thought, no drink for the travelling Irish fans. Whats christy moore gonna sing about now?

It took a while to sink in though. We knocked the Duthch out of the world cup. I think they've been to the last 9 in a row.

And we did it with ten men for most of the second half. What a performance, and what a result! If souness doesn't give McAteer a chance back in the 1st team, then he needs his head screwed on!

That was one of the best matches i've seen in a long time biggrin.gif Fair play to micko and the boys for putting it up to the Dutch and coming out tops. All in all it was class and when we trounce Cyprus in the next game all of Ireland will rejoice and return to the days of Italia 90' when all of Ireland were gripped by the footy fever <please return to us.....>

What really pi$$ed me off was Gary Kelly. He has been a valued member of Eire and Leeds for years now and should know the right time to tackle by now, and i have never really liked Staunton playing as he USUALLY has alot of errors on the ball.....but not at that game. He defended very well and hopefully keeps it up smile.gif

Enough ranting from me for now and give 3 cheers for the people involved with the team

Matt Holland had the cack role of marking Klaivert out of the game, that's why you didn't see him.
Did a great job of it too, Klaivert was nowhere to be seen for most of the match.

Great move by Mick McCarthy, Klaivert was instumental during the Holland vs England, not a peep in the Irish match.

Watched this match in a dodgy Irish Bar in Pueorto Del Carman in Lanzarote and it was magnificient. Was pi$$ed as a fart at the end of it talking to a dutch bird who was calling the dutch players all sorts of names (some of them would have even made wwman blush !!!!).

Now I wonder whats the chance of me getting the 3 weeks off for the World Cup next year and at least £4000 to get to Japan :)

Its the tickets I'd worry about. There is going to be the usual Phoneline Chaos & now as well probably Interent ordering of the tickets.

Get your tickets 1st & then make plans ;)

Also it'll be more difficult w/ FIFA's policy that you must be a passport holder of the country. It'll put an end to getting (for instance) a ticket from a brother of a friends cousin who knows another bloke whos brother's friends friends sister works @ the stadium;)
    You get the idea!

As somebody else already said, Matt Holland was quiet because he was marking Kluivert, and he did it well.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember Steve Finnan charging up the right, making a fool out of Philip Cocu, and crossing the ball for Duff to dummy and Macca to smash into the net.

But I agree, Garry Kelly was useless. Surely he's our 3rd choice right back by now.

why is it that every time stauntan play his performances are described as "great" or something similar. he makes numerous mistakes and is always caught for pace. i know how much service he has given and how much he has contributed over the years but i ont want to remember steve stauntan as a guy who did well for ireland but as the years went got dropped for repeated mistakes.

    does anyone agree?
