Kissing...eyes open or closed?

Just wondering what people are more comfortable with when kissing?
I would definitely be the closed eye type but I opened them the other night while kissing and your man had his eyes wide open - a bit off putting to say the least! I dont know, maybe its different when your actually going out with the person

A poll would have been useful.

There is a difference between kissing with open eyes, and looking deep into someones eyes when kissing.

    If its weird its weird.

    But then there is passionate.

And also, the difference between full on snogging/shifting/wearing and just little teasing kisses.

    It all depends.

    Kissing is an art.

    Did I answer your question?

If you're a bit tipsy, keeping the eyes a little bit open helps the balance.....

I always thought people that kiss with their eyes open were checking out at other people?

None of you have ever kissed anyone so why are you replying?

    Closed.

That's a good tip actually. Couple of times girls have got really offended when I stopped kissing them because I said I was going to get sick.

Maybe I should lay off the sauce.

    eyes closed!!

Except sometimes for a laugh when you are messing about, you can open them really wide to look freaky....

But normally, or if it was something you did't know, then closed for sure.

Closed but it's so funny when you open em for a sec and see the other person! Looks pretty weird!

It's not something I ever think about. Whichever feels right at the time.

Closed most the time; Open for a laugh, if its a jokey type kiss and sometimes if its a really intense moment its nice to be gazing into each others eyes at the same time :)

as said above kissing is an art and it's irrelevant whether your eyes are open or not.

apparently "90% of women believe the first kiss to be a cruicial predeterminer of whether a relationship will work or not" (Hitch, Will Smith). i duno if that's true or not but i always think it's better to know a person beforehand before scoring them as it makes kissing them much better, escpecially if they'r a bad kisser. eyes open or closed are irrelevant but they can act as useful prompts eg as a gauge to see if your partner's enjoying the kiss or not etc

Closed, but ya gotta open them sometimes to see if they're doing it open or closed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

1 of my friends said the other day "have you ever kissed someone with your eyes open?". So another friend put into perspective, picture your friend kissing someone with their eyes wide open, strange. I'm a closed person, and that has kinda made me more so. (you probably needed my friends impression to understand it fully)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

closed and only open them once every few minutes to have a look around, dunno why i do that, its probably the feeling of standing in a room full of drunken people oblivious to any harm that could come your way.

try not to think about it too much tho
you dont want to over think it and end up like this guy:

Open if it's a bad kiss, I mean once I was kissin this girl and it was boring, like not exciting at all.. it was the first time i kissed her aswell.. like kissin ur hand or something, i had my eyes closed, then i opened them and started doiong shifty eye movements as we were kissing, cos i was bored and wanted to distract myself.. i was doing the shifty eyes from the dog in the simpsons, I also was looking at some other girl.. she wasn't llooking at me, but i still was looking at her.. my mate found it funny so did, but the girl i was kissing was tres angry :p

A little mix of both. Depends on the situation. I've no problem looking into someone's eyes.

Closed, unless something catches my attention. Then open the eyes to check, and close them again

Mostly I would kiss with them closed but sometimes during a very intense kiss I will open them and if the other person has them open too it can be quite erotic to be staring deep into each others eyes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 175 ✭✭vgar

Eyes definately closed. If I peek mid way and notice the other person has their eyes wide open it freaks me out, not sure why, but it does! Definately closed all the way!!!

    Depends where you're kissing them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,381 ✭✭✭snorlax

i don't like kissing people in public ie big passionate kiss in broad daylight where millions of people around mite know me, like cousins/ aunts etc, !

i much prefer somewhere quiet/ no distractions/ a nice corner of a pub or something or possible beside the sea( maybe dun laoighaoire pier!), a nightclub is also okay.its fairley obvious anyhow if you open your eyes in broad daylight to the other person, that's why i don't like it.

Yep - I believe kissing is mankind's way of assesing whether a man/woman is sexually compatible with them. Worth practising then ;)

ah sure - if the other one had their eyes closed, then how would they know?

Well, you know the way sometimes you just open your eyes slightly for a second while kissing? If you notice the other person's eyes are wide open, it's freaky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

Closed, only time i'd open them is if they're doing some weird ass sh!t and can't follow their lead, or they're just crap and i wanna check out other people ;)

hardly repersentational though where are all the females on boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

For a first kiss I think that eyes shut is better, you get to concentrate on the kiss more and hopefully feel the electricity:) For a longer term relationship eyes open can be wonderful, there is nothing nicer than looking into the eyes of someone that you are head over heals in love with, feel the electricity and also feel totally safe and warm in their eyes, it does take extra practice but it can be unbelievable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,894 ✭✭✭Chinafoot

    Definitely closed.
And from all the "open if im bored" responses here I guess I'd be a little bit insulted if the guy I was kissing kept his eyes open. :p

Does anyone else like me find kissing really non-passionaite?

Im never after a kiss saying "wow that was amazing". Infact for me its just bleh, something you do.

I never feel any 'electricity'. And I have been told im a good kisser, even though all I ever do is copy the speed the other person is kissing at.

I suppose im a bit of non-foreplay guy overall. I just prefare to do the act the way it feels good for me, then a bit of a kip :)

I had never experienced electricity (and more :o ) when kissing someone until I was 23 - I have experienced it twice since...I think that it just depends, I do not feel that it has anything to do with technique but it does depend on the person that you are with.

Eyes have to be closed. It just freaks me out for someone to be that close to my face and me having my eyes open and vulnerable. I figure it's a defense mechanism for us all.

    Kissing... non passionate.

    Weirdos!

Seriously, kissing can be so intense. Its not just something you do with your lips/tougne ffs!! hehe. Whole bodies and movements get involved.

You people need to put more effort in!
