Broadband connection on wake-up

Whenever I put my iMac asleep and then return to it, the broadband connection is interrupted and Internet Connect tries to dial up. I've even gone to the extent of binning that, but still it appears, I can't work out how.

After a few tries, the ADSL modem kicks in again and normal service resumes. The model is a Zyxel Prestige 600. However, this is still driving me nuts. I was talked through the set-up from BT and I thought all was fine. This never happened before when I had the 3 month free trial last year.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Can I change some setting in Network in System Preferences? Should I be keeping the ADSL modem on 24/7?

    Thanks in advance

Is that a USB or ethernet-based DSL modem, if I may ask? Also, do you have to use PPPoE or something like that on yer Mac? If you do, you would obviously need to connect again every time, since that's how PPPoE works.

What I'm using is broadband with a router, which does all the PPPoE for me, so I'm instantly on the net whenever I wake up my Mac or PC.

there is setting in internet connect , connect when needed I think ...safari should pick up on the network active connection if this is unticked , also make sure that the network location via the apple icon top left is set to automatic ,

I'm using an ethernet connection for that. In Network, It's using TCP/IP, not PPPoE.

When I go to location from the apple menu, it shows my location as set up and it tells me that it's connevted to the internet via the ethernet connection

Have you set the TCP/IP Settings manually in the prefs or Using DHCP.

Setting TCP/IP manually might help..sorted any probs i'v had with my wireless connection dropping on sleep.

The problem appears to be sorted now. I tried setting up a new location with a new name and that appears to have done it. The TCP/IP was set up using DHCP.

    Thanks to all
