Its hard to beat telestunt. Call Australia for the price of a local call. I've been using them to call Australia for a number of months now and despite the dubious sounding name it works great. No need to buy a card or anything - just dial the prefix and it comes up at local call rate on your next phone bill. Occasionally you can get a duff line - but so what. At local call rates just hang up and dial again.

Does telestunt work with mobiles? I tried the US number, but I don't even get a ringing tone on meteor - the call is just dropped automatically. I've had problems with meteor before trying to ring freephone numbers - could this be the same kind of thing?

    From Telestunts FAQ:
Do calls made from Irish mobiles attract a surcharge?

If you are ringing from a mobile you could be surcharged by your mobile operator. This depends on your mobile operator and which tariff plan you have. We advise you to get in touch with your mobile phone provider to double check if they surcharge on calls to our access numbers. (For the customer services telephone number of your mobile phone provider click here.)

I interprete this to mean that you are at the mercy of your mobile operatore as to whether or not they alow you to ring 1890 numbers and how much they charge for them.

Yeah, I knew it'd be up to them to charge what they want for an 1890 number... but to not even allow you make calls to 1890 numbers is a bit much. I think I'll just give customer care a call.

Yep as expected, they're more expensive....

    From Meteor website:
    Free/Low call services
    1800 numbers Free
    1850 numbers*** 30c/call
    1890 numbers** 15c/min
    1891 numbers 12.5c/min

ok just rang my mate in australia, on his mobile, using his mobile, with telestunt.

cost me €10 for 16 min.

so i guess it's 33c to ring an australian mobile from your landline, that kinda sucks if you don't have a landline.

they fúck you at the drive through.

Just rang meteor to see why I couldn't get through using telestunt - apparently it's "official Meteor policy" not to allow people to use any kind of calling-card/reduced rate numbers, the more popular numbers, like Telestunt, have been totally blocked.
