    Hey,

Is anyone familiar with buying regs in the states? i'll be based there for the summer looking into getting a new reg when i'm there, the scubapro MK17/X650 or something similar.

Do Scubapro Europe (UK) honour the warenty on them?
Anything else i should be aware of?

Not very helpful, but i got an Oceanic reg in the states and when there was a recall for the CDX 1st stages (some part was dodge) i brought it to an Oceanic dealer here in ireland, the part was F.O.C. but the labour was charged for.

So for oceanic anyway, the warranty applied.

    Hi,
I have lived there and go quite regularly to USA. With regards to buying regulators, go with a brand that is serviced here in Ireland like Scubapro, Apexs, Aqualung, Mares.

I know with Scubapro because I looked into warranty issues, If you buy in the USA, that warranty doesn't carry to Europe. Scubapro have a excellent warranty in the states, you need to buy from authorised scubapro dealer, you get a credit card-like warranty card woth serial numbers on it for each piece of equipment. You take it in for servicing yearly, all parts are free but a small charge for labour. In Europe, they don't offer this to their customers.

It's to do with EU legislation! If u travel back and forth with job, it may be worth bringing back regs each year for servicing, etc.

I will say that regardless of the so-called saving you may think that you may make. I still think that your local dive is the best place to buy when it comes to regs, etc. They're your life support. USA is too far away to go for repair, etc. I bought my regs here and only bought fins, knife, etc in USA.

    Hope this helps, Ro.

I bought Regs from the States, but if your using them in ireland, you have to understand they were developed in Tropical Waters, I had a a Mares one and if i was on a deep dive 30+ with a Deco stop, the first stage would freeze slightly and my secondstage would freeflow near the surface doing my 3mtr stop, its just worth checking that there is some anti-freeze stages, I now have an Aqualung Glacia that i bought from the states, its anti-freeze and i havent had a bit of trouble with it, but id agree with ronanm98 look for ones that service is available in Ireland! ScubaPro, Aqualung, Possiden, etc

I used to think that too - then I went diving with some guys (and gals) from Ohio State University. They train in a quarry - using cold water regs and 9mm wet suits.

So regulators to suit our colder waters are easily available - you just want to make sure that's what you get - and as others have pointed out, ones that can be serviced here too.

Oh they do coldwater regs in the states just do a bit of research on brands before you take the leap! Just buy the best you can afford to spend on a good model, I have used Oceanic, Posiden, Scubapro currently using Aqualung which are very good, I would recommend it highly
