BTW: unless it was something about this side of the pond I wouldn't get too excited, if you've ever read fast food nation or just about any investigation into the US food system you'd realise that there are totally different rules over here any they couldn't get away with a lot of stuff that is acceptible over there. eg: GMO / hormones / time spent on butchering / feedstuffs (really scary)

one of the managers where i used to work was telling me he was eating in kfc one day and a rat walked in the door, then out again. now he swears its true and i believed him, you can decide for yourself!

That's horrific stuff. The b*stards are so cavalier in the way they toss the chickens about. The part where that assh*le stomps on the chickens was hard to watch.

    zinger tower, anyone ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

    do you wana go large?

the last meal i had in there was the daddy burger, or as i call it the heart stopper. on the box you get it says it has everything "even the kitchen sink".

now in small print on the back there is a disclaimer saying "the daddy burger does not include a kitchen sink"!

tbh I've never eat in KFC because its horribly overpriced chicken whose taste can easily be replicated in the comfort of your own home!

    Zinger burger
    Crispy strips
    Chips
    BBQ sauce
    Gravy.

No picture will ever put me off the above :)

I remember seeing a video in school of the state of Irish chicken farms (the No Free Range ones), and unfortunately, it goes on in Ireland aswell. (not sure if it still does though. Saw the video a while ago)

It's not just chickens though, some pigs and cows are treated like this too...
    Sad really. :(

The video is spoiled for me, and renders the whole thing suspicious, when the last comment is an invitation to find out how to become a vegetarian.

pretty horrible alright but then again any abbatoire you'd go to is pretty off-putting, i used to work in a piggery, and the killing line is pretty horrible, so if you eat fast food, or indeed meat, just remember where it somes from, or adopt the attitude ignorance is bliss

Jesus had an answer to everything, and look where it go him.

But if its tongue in cheek....

    /EDIT
im reading through the rest of it. Some of his comments make sense (such as the make up your own mind in the Sideways section), but then he makes a generalisation about vegitarians, so I can't make me mind up

The video was disgusting , yes a change needs to be made and some of those workers are scum, however this wouldnt put me off KFC (not that I go there very often anyway).

Anything associated with PETA I am instantly suspicious of. I cant help but feel that some of that video is propaganda. Like its already been said in this thread, that video is just trying to use shock tactics to convert people to veganism.

It is pretty disturbing, but i wouldnt be a bit surprised if the chickens you buy at the supermarket are treated the exact same way. It mass production. You get what you pay for. Granted it is not very nice to look at but its a consumer society. People are always complaining at the high prices of everything but if they want low prices thats what they get, mass production.

sick, sends a whole new meaning to buy free range

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    its disturbing. But thats buisness.

apart from the sadistic treatment point near the end, nothing in that piece surprised me.

If you want to have KFC treat the chickens better and humanely slaughter them, then expect to pay more for your chicken. If you want cheap food, then ignorance is bliss.

example: Go into a supermarket, compare free range to GM crop food in price.

secondly: Pamala Anderson feels that we are mistreating the chickens, denying them of the lives they deserve, ok i'm sorry to play devils advocate but without the demand for fried chicken there wouldnt be many chickens would there? These chickens are given a priority because they are desirable foodstuff, in the same way Cows and sheep dominate ireland's countryside. We fear that processes like cloning are giving man the right to play god, when we already play god by increasing one animals population over another to use as foodstock, Mcdonalds cut down rainforests so that cows can graze hmm, so talking about giving chickens a better life before killing them is stupid seeing as they only live to be eaten, sure you can easily have a sanctuary for chickens and other livestock animals to live their lives as they should, But accept that the chickens in KFC are not there to live but to die, if your against that then your going to have to convince the world not to want cheap chicken.

omg...the bit "Chickens are forced into scalding hot water while still consious and able to feel pain"

Fúckin bastards, if I caught someone doin that by god....

You'd rouse the chickens to rebellion?

You'd make a greenpeace style stand?

You would "beat the **** outta him and teach him a lesson not to mess with the chickens ever again"?

Youd make a tit outta yourself?

In all bloody fairness, what would you do?

As horrible as it is for chickens I really don't have any kind of emotional bond to our feathered friends. The only thing the movie succeeded in doing was making me hungry. Must drop by kfc tomorrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 345 ✭✭Khalim

    but why KFC?

its not like the food tastes good? does it?

now I HAVE to try it. (while in my heart, I will remember the fate of the poor chickens)

kfc isnt the only place that sells fried chicken,

kfc isnt the only place that MAY (as i wouldnt consider one video proof of everything as it could be one sided) treat animals badly before feeding them to us. every fast food giant has the same alligations against it. it comes with the terratory.

as said before every animal dies before we eat it(unless you are very weird) how many of you think about the tiny white fluffy lamb before you eat a lamb chop? next to none id say, does it stop anyone from eating meat, well unless you give it up by choice then no.

there are more humaine methods of death for animals, but this costs more and in the consumer driven market as said before the cheaper the better so the profits are greater.

i dont eat kfc because of this or animal rights i dont eat it because it gave me horrible horrible food poisening in london, and i dont trust it again yet-thought a daddy burger sounds good!

I aint a veggy but im afraid thats what goes on to most chcikens (for fast food places anyway) just for some reason plastic t*its picked on KFC those chickens could have been for McD or Burger king the video shows no relation to KFC in the factory at all

Where are PETA when the lobsters and crabs are boiled alive? You ever see those tanks in the grocery stores and resteraunts with the live lobsters? What do you think happens to them. They get a lethal injection before hitting the pot? Why isn't PETA protesting all these grocery stores? All the restaurants?

Does anyone know if the definition of "Free Range" still allows you to have a barn crammed with ~15 chickens per square meter in it ?
(each chicken has about the same space as A4 sheet of paper, they just aren't in cages. )

Yeah but they can freely walk around the place and leave the coup when ever they want.
