there are 2 lite ons there
i have the 5006 model and it does the job, €299 there but €220 on svp who have a discount on shipping at the moment (type "shipping" in as the code)
can be made region free and macrovision free. gets some good and bad reviews.
picture still goes jerky about once a month when I flick channels fast, you just turn it off and on and all is well again. good for the price. has component out and prg scan

i would recommend it. only €212 on svp (below) you can get dirt cheap quality dvd+rw and other blanks there too, the dvd+rw are great since you dont have to finalise them and they work straight away in 4 out of 5 stand-alone players I have. with the "shipping" voucher it should be less than €10 for a 2 day courier delivery. check out there cd holding cases too they hold 240 discs and are very cheap

the downpoints you will find in reviews is the jerkiness (which is rare) and the inability to edit dvds on it, (you can delete single items from a from dvd-/+r(w) but you cant edit out ads from a recording, you can pause while watching though which gives very clean breaks and pretty instant start up)

Yeah there's plenty of free software out there. DVD shrink is not very fond of my liteon discs for some reason. If I save them as separate files rather than a image it will open them. There are a few liteon forums where users probably know the best programs.

Dearg Doom- SVP do lots of offers but it is usually only over the weekends. You can get region free codes, and macrovision-free firmware on the net too

I have a Lite On 5006 & tried a few bits of software to edit out the adverts.
Most didn't recognise the format, so I ended up with TMPGEnc DVD Author http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html

It's very easy to use - add the file from the DVD, scroll through, cut, save & burn.

    There is a guide here
