    Hi Guys,

I have an 8 page pdf document and i need to alter certain numbers and addresses on two of the pages. I dont have the original document in word
    or anything like that.

When I open the pages in Aobe Illustrator 10 the following message pops up:

Missing Type 1 fonts have been substituted with the default font.

Fonts with foreign encodings have been reencoded.

    Expected a name object.

When my selected page then opens certain headings are missing and some of the text is gone aswell.

Can any one tell me how i might sort this out where i might be able to so that I can open these pages properly and edit them.

    Thanks
    Scriibs ;)

Do you have the fonts used in the PDF installed on your system? If not, they may not have been embedded in the document. Do you use a font manager?

Type1 fonts are PostScript fonts. If you're editing a PDF in distiller and you haven't the Type1 font installed and active on your computer, you won't be able to edit it. Presumably for it to work in Illustrator, you'll have to change all the type to a font you don't have, or install the font. There's also the possibility that your font may be corrupt, in which case you'll have to check the original and replace it on the system.

    Thanks for replying Dadakopf,

Do you know where I can get Type 1 fonts ?
Can I get them for free ?

    Cheers,

Type1 PostScript fonts (there's also Type2) are just a particular format of type files like TrueType, except they're made differently and sometimes need special programs to work. There are free ones on the web alright (try www.dafont.com), but pro standard ones cost money. What exactly is the font that's causing the problem? If you don't know, in Illustrator select the text and see what comes up in the Character Palatte. Alternatively, select and copy some text from the PDF, paste into Word and see what font it tells you it is in the font list.
