    hey guys and gals,
ive an ibm thinkpad that i am in the process of deleting windows 2000 and installing xp on, ive deleted the partition that 2000 was on......now heres the problem-when i'm booting from the windows xp media to create a new partition it comes to a screen asking me to format the hd, i proceed to do so but an error occurs each time and i'm therefore stuck with a blank laptop as i cant load windows onto it until its formatted. can anyone suggest anything? i kinda need to get this done asap as i need the laptop either tomorrow or at the very latest saturday. any help would be much appreciated. :)
    Thanks
    -P

    Two things -

What's the error you are getting

    and

I thought the XP install would give you the option of wiping the drive prior to commencing the install?

You probably need to delete the partition and re-create it, then install XP.

Another option might be to put the hdd into a pc as a slave and scrub it there. More hassle getting it set up but far easier to format a slave then a master drive

DOS disk if ya have one. Or a USB stick - boot to msdos and format the HDD yourself then retry installing XP

this is not ideal but I had this issue once before. I ended up firing a copy of windows 2000 onto the machine which installed fine and then I stuck the XP CD in and did an upgrade.

I am not a fan of upgrading windows but the machine I did it on is still up and running without any problems.
