I managed to get the 3ghz prescott to 4ghz stable, straight away, u guys were right.

I think thats cool, the thermaltake bigwater only cost about €90 euros and it allows me to get a 1ghz overclock on the prescott (well i also have a 2nd rad aswell ;) ).

temps are about 42 degrees idle and around 52 on load, only on 1.59vcore , which is actually running at 1.55vcore (roughly).

If the vcore was actually slightly higher than 1.55V because i think it was rising and falling a bit, will that make a difference as to life span, like if it lasts 1 year il be happy. But would i notice problems after a few months??

I got the bigwater in www.jes.de
it took me ages to get all the parts together (no cash), but it only took me about 20mins to put the in watercooler, but took me 1 nite to set up the whole pc as i modded a few swiches in it to turn on the uv lights etc and drilled a hole in the front to put the IR adapter for the tvcard at the front so it has a little "peephole" at the front so i can use the remote. And i had to mod an artic cooler onto my graphics card - a little hacksawing and filing of the copper base required, took about an hour ;) .

il try get a loan of a digital camera to take a pic or two, but i dont have a digital camera.

cool...thanks for the info..and good work on the overclock

i dont think i will be able to push it much more than 4ghz, ram is running at about 533mhz, fsb is over 1ghz ;)

Yeah 1.55 is pretty much the general accepted limit. I wouldn't push it any more than that though. You should get at least a few years out of it at 1.55. Out of interest what socket and stepping is it? Oh and nice overclock btw. :D

its only socket 478. i think its an E stepping model prescott (i only bought it a month or 2 ago in jes), but im not 100% on that, il check it when i go home.

I was very suprised to be able to run it @ 4ghz stable straight away

yeh its quiet, and u can put what ever fan u want on it, the pump is quiet and the fan on lowest setting is fine, which is what i have it on all the time. Id recommend it for ease of use. preformance is not bad, but add another rad to it for optimum preformance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,823 ✭✭✭Horsefumbler

what does add another rad mean? (i'm nub)

    rad = radiator

I mean add another radiator to the watercooling loop.

    u get it??

Cpuz screen attached, the vcore is drooping bad, goes from 1.56v to 1.61v :(

i hope this doesnt affect the cpu really bad.

Cpu Bench Added (Sandra) ---not bad

Good job you got a socket 478. You need watercooling to run the 775's at stock, the supplied HSF aint worth sh1t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭dubdvd

nice job G ...told you there a great overclocker ...beleive me you might get 4.2 out of that baby ..it can be the luck of the draw with any cpu.s but you got a good one there ....nice one:D

    Thermaltake products are sub-par.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

    Gline,
Couple of questions for you.I posted in the tweaking forum about an upgrade to my p4 2.8 northwood @ 3.2 and just found out today that I can get a p4 prescott socket 478 3.6ghz for 199.00.
    Questions are:
    1.What prescott is yours?
2.I take it its the 800fsb?
3.The water cooler--is it easy to fit?
4.What would you reckon Id get with the above chip on water speed wise?
    Cheers
    Richie

As always Gline, an excellent overclock.

    Above chip = 3.6GHz i am asumming

i have the same chip except mine is scket 775, got it dead stable at 4.32GHz but usualy just run it @ 4GHz, it really depends on the chip it self, some
p4 3 <--> 3.8Ghz are better than others @ Overclocking its just down to the actual chip, dont think i would recomend a P4 3.6 over a P4 3/3.2 as you wont see any real beinifits for the extra money you spend. i would say stick with the chip you have and put it on water should bring you up to 3.5ish
    post some specs

    1: it is a 3ghz prescott E0 stepping
    2: yes
3: very easy to fit and cheap, a good cheapo cooler
4: i reckon you would get between 4ghz-4.6ghz depending on the memory you are using and the actual chip u get.

    hope this helps you.

BTW where are you geting the 3.6 for 199euro, that is a savage deal, if you dont end up taking it , let me know as i would be interested ;)

    Specs are:
    P4 2.8 @3.2 on Arctic cooler.
    1gb Pc 3200 ddr
    2x 120gb H/d
    Mobo--Gigabyte P4 Titan-GA8IE-2004PL.
    Radeon 9700pro--Artic cooler.Memory 350/Core 380(I think)
Support list is out of date for that motherboard
    http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-8IE2004P-L.htm

But the manual DOES say that its Prescott 800mhz ready.

    Turns out the P4 is a 3.2 not a 3.6 like I was told.Its a Northwood aswell not a Prescott.
Any point in going on with this now.It is a 800fsb one and price still seems reasonable.

Wouldn’t bother mate, you already got a 2.8 running @ 3.2Ghz so where’s the point. It can more than handle and app/game thrown at it; if I were you I would upgrade the gfx card before the CPU. What is your main use for the machine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

yeh i have to agree with jessy, get a better graphics card

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,885 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hellrazer

Ok graphics card it is so.Any recommendations?Im stuck with AGP.
