    Many managers are **** anyway, but they can also be very tractable, so I wouldn't be surprised if they started turning 'Gordon Gecko' after watching the show or reading the latest bull**** management self-help book.

    Yes, I suppose I have. But how many people have bosses that they just don't respect either because they are dumbasses or unfair or whatever. If I have a good boss there is never a problem. If I have a boss who is .. let's say.. mentally challenged, on a power-trip, unfair in his/her dealings, then I have a problem. :)

    It seems in many industries in Ireland, middle management don't actually manage their people at all, and I hate that old fashioned stifling method of management which is employed by older bosses who rule with iron fists because they don't know any better.

    on the other hand, do you also think there are a lot of employees out there who dont understand the role their manager is in, and just becuase their manager doesnt centre their day around the employee, just tend to moan all the time and say thier manager is rubbish?

    becuase i gotta say, i have seen just as many of your examples, as i have of my examples :)

    im ok, i got a supurb boss :)

    Jebus, you must have my brain tapped, this is a few times you've posted exaclty what I was thinking.
    In my experience, certain (brown nosing pigdogs) people have been "given" management positions based on the length of time working for the company, not based on merit/experience/qualifications. These people are entirely inept and haven't a clue how to do their job.
    A small example - only the other day I overheard (and a lot of other people did too) a manager explain that he couldn't go for a smoke because "I'm bursting for a slash".
    This, to me, is unacceptable behaviour for a manager, someone your supposed to look up to and respect.

    Managers are people too. They make mistakes just like regular employees but theres tend to be more noticeable due to their position.

    My own manager is pretty okay. She has her moments which make the rest of us sit there and think "wtf? Where did that come out of?" and then she has great ideas at other times. Most importantly, she's easy to get on with and will try to accomodate us as much as she can. All I ever expect from a manager is fair treatment. Once I've got that, I'll perform, if I don't I'll just turn into a slacking ba$tard and enjoy bating them...

    on the other hand, if he had just said no, then you would have said he was a stuck up batsard who has no time for the people, and if he comes out for a smoke, then hes just trying to get in with the crowd.

    i mean, really, its damned if you do and damned if you dont, and damned if you need to go for a p1iss now as well.

    but its lucky that most managers have people with attitudes like this who are happy to b1tch away about every single mistake and moan about every single thing.
    and yet, for some reason, arent willing to make suggestions for improvement, because, then they wouldnat have anything to moan about.

    i think its more a begrudging thing.
    but sure, there are plenty of crap managers about.
    just the same way you will be a crap manager if you ever get into that position.

    its like young people. they know everything. always know better than people with experience.
    makes me smile :)


    but no, i havent seen my boss take on any of the attributes of the apprentice.

    It was an example of moronic managerial behaviour in my workplace.
    I couldn't give a toss if he pitched a loaf on his own desk and wore a chickens outfit because he's not my manager, thank god.

    All I'm saying is that unprofessional managerial behaviour in the workplace, in my experience, is on the rise due to the wrong person getting the job for the wrong reason. And I'm not saying all managers are morons either before you cast me in the flames of hell.

    i would never cast you into hell.
    i dont have enough power unfortunately, but you would also be far back in the line.

    however, its not that i dont agree with you, i often think there are people like that, but if you give a specific example, you can expect someone to come back at you with a specific case :)

    Oh yeah, I know that the manager is basically a proletariat with a tin badge, who does all the dirty work of the capitalist, and yet, is not themselves a capitalist. A puppet if you will. And that that ties the hands of many managers. However, there are a lot of managers there, as keyzer says, who have brown-nosed their way into their position, and know little about the job, and less about dealing with the people they are supposed to be 'managing'.

    Your making huge assumptions here based on nothing. You don't know me, where I work or who my superiors are or how they behave themselves.
    Maybe I expect a little more from a manager than you do, maybe I have higher standards and expectations than you.

    How you can assume that someone will make a crap manager, if thats the position that person evens wants to move into, based on comments like mine is beyond me.

    Your Peter Principle link, I couldn't agree more, but anyone with a brain and some motivation can overcome the apparent problems when moving into a mangerial position. There is also a wealth of education out there for those who are actually interested in the doing the job properly.

    But hang on a sec... your a manager, right? that explains everything...
