DONT BUY IT yet! Are u in Puerto del Carmen? What is the name of the shop you are in?

In Puerto del Carmen, walk to the end of the main strip towards Hotel San Antonio. Walk on the beach side of the road looking over at the shops. The shop you are looking for is called "Visanta". They are professionals, the hundreds of other electrical shops are rip off atrists. Dont even bother, believe me. In Visanta, you pay face value (no bargaining) but its a lot cheaper than here. Plus you get a valid receipt. They really know their stuff. :D

Ok, let me clear this up, DO NOT BUY ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IN ANY SHOP OTHER THAN VISANTA!!!

Dont bother, dont get sucked in by a cheaper price in any other shop. The only thing garaunteed in "Foto Porst" or wherever is whatever you buy WILL fall apart within 2 weeks. Everything is imitation. It is possible to make fake electrical equipment the same as its possible to make fake Nike t-shirts. Please take my advice. You will be sorry if you dont. :D

where exactly is visanta? Lets say in relation to the shopping centre... is it up this end of the strip...or perhaps the other end towards the casino?? Im searching the web and there is nothing but bad reports about FOTO PORST...Doesnt look very good.

Its up towards the casino, u are near the Biosfera shopping centre. Run, run as fast as you can towards the casino. Stay on the beach side and have a look over at the shops on the opposite side of the road. If i were u, id get a taxi cos you are a fair bit down and its hot outside. :o Tell the taxi driver u want to go to Visanta. They all know it cos the tourists with sense go there to buy cameras, lol. :D

Oh, and when u do get ur camera, charge it up and enquire at the hotel about the Grand Tour. It is possibly the most amazing tour ive ever been on, seriously. 50 euro for a full day trip, lovely meal included in a beautiful village in the south-west corner of the island. ;)

Regardless of the price I've not been able to find any trace of a "Sony CyberShot DSC P900" anywhere in the web. Are you sure that's the model number? There's a P200, but that's in the $US 350-400 price range, so €130 sounds a bit too cheap, especially for a 7.2 megapixel camera.

If I was u Agent, I would have a camera in mind (one that exists) before u go into Visanta. They will 9/10 have it in stock. If not, they will have another model with similar spec. I went in with a camcorder in mind, came out with a better one for the same price. It takes photos and stores them on an SD card also! Handy.

I was supposed to go back and get a 128 mb SD card but I forgot. Cards are soooo cheap in there, I was kicking myself. :(

Just out of complete curiosity, is the weather nice there CTU agent, I'm going to Lanzarote next thursday amd cant find the out what weather's like.

Good luck with the camera by the way and am definitly checking out visanta for the eletrical stuff as need a new memory card :)

If I remember correctly if your walking towards the casino in the direction of Matagorda (with the casino on your right) then Visanta is the same side....am I right??

Otherwise I dont know where it is!

Puerto del Carmen is a big place. Its near the casino on the opposite side of the road. Again, ask a taxi driver. I was there in the first week of April and it was 25- 30 degrees all day every day. Perfect holiday weather. Should be a bit better now. This might help.

Was there 4 years back and have a vague recollection of the area alright!

Thanks for the heads up - glad to hear the weather was good as well, thanks :)

First off - the price in the windows of most electronics shops in the Canaries is for the unit itself ie. no battery, no case, no warranty, etc..

Most of them are scam artists. Beware. Check the box is sealed (Canon don't seal boxes, I'm not sure about sony), check all the items are there and when you know they are DO NOT LET THE BOX LEAVE YOUR HAND. Get a proper receipt.

Remember you will have little comeback as the police there aren't the gringo's best friend.

If it was the P200, that sounds waay too cheap then. It's €320 on pixmania, and €321 on nomatica, and according to dpreview.com the average street price in the US is US$ 372 (approx €287). Sounds a bit suspicious to me.

Sounds suspicious to me too. Ask in Visanta about the exact same model. I bet it will be cheap but not as cheap as 130e tbh. That shop has loads of other electrical equipment. Nearly all models of mp3 players, dvd/ftf flip up combis, binoculars, car head units/speakers etc etc. Pity the online catalogue doesnt have prices available. Looks like the shop is run by father/son, both with expert knowledge. :)

The only thing I was worried about was the charger power cable i got was 2 pin. When I got home I just swapped it for our 3 pin version (the type u get with hifi's etc). U could get an adapter either. ;)

When u go to those dodgy dealers they actually have real things on display but they charge u extra for batteries, straps and all so it actually works out dearer than Visanta, Visanta is the only place to shop in over there unless u are buying GBA games!!

I was in Peurto de carmen in march. The rep told me to stay well away from those cheap shops all their electrical equipment is fake or not genuine as a previous posters camera fell apart,They may seem genuine but there not.Its pretty much annoying when every 2nd shop is a camera shop. And they seem to have a camera on "special offer"the whole time.Dont waste your money go to visanta(Or whatever)I was looking through it and they are genuine.Dont be fooled.

Tbh,I found the mmc cards very dear over there than here,I know you can bargain them down which still leaves you at the face value as here. One shop i went into had a 512mmc for 65 and a 256mmc for 40,Never noticed the sony mem sticks but i suppose there dearer than here.

Visanta had a 128mb SD card for 12 euro, which was cheap i thought.
