    Hey,

I've been out of the country for a while... and tonight I'm back and meeting a friend in town... around O'Connell street ... he was mentioning Doyles. What is that like? Where else could we go that is any good? I think we'll be meeting up around 7:30pm... and won't be out too late as I have to get the DART back to Malahide.

Thanks for any info on any cool places... preferably studenty where we can find some cute (student?) girls ;)

Urgh, the prospect of getting the last DART home always used to ruin a night out for me before I moved into town.. but...

Doyles is okay. Depends what age you are really. A lot of students drink there, so if you're of the early 20s brigade you should be okay. Few different floors and the beer is okay.. Can get a bit messy though, and from what I remember the toilets are gross.

I don't usually drink around O'Connell St. even though I live around there, I'm more inclined to go up around Dame/Parliament/Sth William Streets..

    A few recommendations -

Bà Mizu - Good music, good sounds.
Thomas Reades - Great at weekends, prob a bit quiet midweek
Front Lounge - Gay/Swingers bar. Great tunes, relaxed atmosphere.

    Kev.

i'm a student so excuse my recommendations!

capitol on georges street is nice, yummy cocktails all €5 before 11.
sosume is nice too, rumours say its now a gay bar
hogans on georges street is also nice (anyone sensing a pattern?!!)
cant really think of anywhere else, brain is fried from studying! pesky exams...!

Ok thanks. I'm 23, so Doyles sounds like the place to be.

Working in Malahide, just started on a project here yesterday for the next few months. Know if there are any decent places around there for partying?

Doyles is my fave pub, tis just across the river from where I live, I go there all the time. They do good pints of guinness - some places do truly mank ones (e.g. Dorans).

I'll second doyles, great place, 3 floors all totally different. Guinness is decent too.. It has to catch you in the right mood however to enjoy it. If you're gonna be dancin best to go with a group of people with you know rather than just one or two friends. The dancefloor can be crowded, you need a good few people to hold up the fort.

EDIT: heheh.. just now saw that seb said the same thing about the guinness. It's feels good when your taste is unknowingly backed up :)

i think it's here, I can never remember the address, and I only ever end up there when I'm fairly well on. If I'm wrong, I'm sure it'll be pointed out..

if the weather is good, you could head out to the Pav in Trinity (near the lincoln street entrance). Cheap beer, and a whole lot of students (for obvious reasons)...very good atmosphere

You've got it there alright. Their Guinness is great, but i don't think it beats UCD sports bar. MMM mmm.

Most students are studying this week (or at least should be ;) )

I'd go with the Doyles thing too....Ba Mizu, Dakota, Hogans (all George's Street direction) Samsara on Dawson St....

Nah, not IMO. Don't get me wrong, the Sports Bar is my fave UCD bar, (well, it would be cept for the "Miller 3 euro" deal in the StuBar) :D
But its Guinness, while satisfying, ain't as good. But it's all much of a muchness, an inannyway, the Sports Bar's Guinness is probably cheaper so it's probably the better option alright...

Oh, and the Pav in Trinity is pretty good - Bavaria on tap people!!!!!

Doyles is a solid choice of pub with dancefloor. Also good pubs IMO are Hogans (Georges St), Thomas Read (Dame St), Bruxelles (Harry St, turn right above HMV in Grafton St.) and the Porterhouse (between city hall and the liffey). They're all also not completely dead on a Wednesday night, unlike, say, Eamon Dorans or Voodoo Lounge...
