As someone who can't stand the thought of drinking & driving anyway, i probably could've done without seeing that.

The sad thing is that most of the people who read that & see those pictures are just gonna think, 'It'll never happen to me'.

I've never seen this before, really wakes you up!!!

Perhaps jim macdaid should be sent those two word documents!

    Terrible story and shocking pictures.

Everybody should take responsibility for their own actions. Very few people link the purcahse of a pirate DVD with the junkie who robs your house.

disgusting - but needs to be shown - poor girl

I know it sounds harsh, but i think anybody who gets caught drink driving should lose the licience forever, pay a huge bloody fine, in the region of a few years earnings, and do community work at rehabilitation centers and burns units like that girl is in.

I totally agree! But I'd go further.

On top of what you've said, I think that anyone caught drink driving should be charged with attempted murder ... & it has to be murder, because anyone who drinks & drives has seen the warnings & knows the probable effect of their actions & so to do so is pre-meditated!!

I was listening to Eamon Dunphy on Newstalk on Tuesday & he was being beratted by the listeners [by text] because he felt the uproar about McDaid was over the top ... what would he & all the other bleeding heart liberals say if it was their family or friends who were effected by a drink driving related accident?

Put a warning in the topic.
Them pictures aren't nice to look at.

jesus, that needs a warning big time, i just opened that with a young kid in the room. its gonna take me a while to explain that story to an 11 year old!

good on you for putting this up. no warning needed. this is reality and everyone should see it.

as for those who want to protect their sensitivities by wanting a warning... grow up!

Hard to look at, it's scary how an ordinary person's life can change so badly so quickly.

****ting on the whole idea of classifications and age ratings a wee bit there arent ya! personally, i was too bothered by it, it was my younger sister who got pretty disturbed. plus, its not very work friendly either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭Hitchhiker's Guide to...

maybe should put a warning on it - prob the only people who will be drink/driving are over 18, so could just say 'over-18' on the post...no biggie; now let's stay on topic, surely this thread isn't about censorship?

not analagous, not even in the slightest. the link here was not put up for gratification, this is a real consequence of a drunk driving incidence. to compare the two is idiotic. if you bleieve the two are in any way comparable then it's time you paid a visit to the real world

    She looks odd.

well some people may regard it as a graphic image, generally graphic images come with a warning beforehand. Just like tv shows come with a warning beforehand and are shown later in the evening. Porn being shown during the day is just an example. What I'm saying is that just because something happens in real life doesn't mean its suitable for everyone. Imagine what this "real world" you speak of would be like if there were no restrictions with images in the media.

i have to agree. I've had a few too many on many an occasion, but have NEVER driven while drunk. Generally, if you go out, you know whether or not your going to be drinking and can plan ahead to have a driver, or be somewhere you can stay until you sober up,or drink at home ,or within walking distance of home, or bring taxi fare .. there's just no excuse.

I think it's pretty shocking that people are shunning the posting of the images. I mean what a pack of nasty people. If you saw her walking done the street, would you turn away from her, cover your childrens eyes. Tell her to cover herself up.

Fair enough, as I said she looks odd, but it's not exactly graphic. No blood/gore etc, it's not like here entrails are hanging out.

Yeah I think it was too, its definately opened some peoples eyes, it should make anyone stop and think twice before getting behind a wheel with alcohol in their blood. If this is achieved, then I think thats what this girl is trying to achieve.

Im sure we all know about the pro's and cons of drink driving. It's on TV enough. A warning should have been put in the topic as it's a disgusting picture I did not want to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

    pros?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I find it a bit strange that people would consider the pictures shocking, in the "why didn't you warn me!?" sense.
Would you expect this girl to have someone go around announcing "Warning! Graphic Image approaching!" each time she enters a room? How about pictures of genetic deformities, healed-up stumps, people with no ears? Are they equally as "graphic"?

LMAO. Its bad to laugh but your dead right. As said, you wouldn't turn away if you met on the street. Its a good way to get the point across. It seems to be the only way. The only graphic ads on t.v. are the ones fighting against Drink Driving. Poor girl.

TBH, shocking would be starting a thread with no woarning on "Playing with shotguns is bad" then to post a link to that picture on rotten.com of the guy with his face blown off.

    That would be shocking.

a disfigured face is just a person, with scars. there's far more disturbing graphic imagry in pc games.

    really makes you think....

if i was incharge, drink drivers would face going to jail for 2years or banned from driving for tweenty years. they would have to choose.

when you driving a car drunk, its Just like shooting a gun into a crowd.

No-one in their right mind would defend drink-driving.

However, it needs to be said that driving is INHERENTLY DANGEROUS.

There have been people injured as badly as that poor girl in car accidents that did not involve drink driving.

The title is don't drink and drive?? does that not make it obvious that the pictures are going to be horrific? Just like those rotten advertisements on the TV, they are graphic, that is the point, to make people finally get the picture (no pun intended) and not drink and drive...
