    Hi
I am thinking of bringing my girlfriend to Italy for her birthday, can anybody out there recommend a good city
to go to? good food, wine and bit of shopping, and not too pricey! I am thinking we could rent an apartment for the week also. I would be very grateful for any tips and ideas

    thanks
    freddie

    how to pick
    how to pick?!

Rome - cos it's Rome! beautiful, for all the wonderful monuments that you can see

Venice, I absolutely loved it, very romantic city and stunningly beautiful, loved travelling everywhere on the vaperattos (sp?)

and as it's Italy, it doesn't matter where you go, the food will be wonderful

    /edit
I stayed in the Oasis B&B in Venice, and there is no better place in the city to stay imo

Its my first time in Italy (shame on me!) so I think it will have to be Rome! Would you, or anybody else have any good suggestions on what part of the city to stay in?

    thanks in advance

It hasn't been mentioned already but Florence is a nice place to go to. I was there are few years back and it was beautiful. Only 3-4hrs from Rome by train as well. Florence is known for it's jewellers and leather. Can be a tad pricey though.

Visited Rome for a day then as well and I must say I left the place wanting to go back for a month :) Just one of those places that a person has got to see in their lifetime.

    A.
