    Hi all,

I'm moving house and I want/need to move my Sat system. I also want to apply for a get installed a second sky sub and decoder. How do I go about this? Can I do this all through an Irish distributor? What's the cost, lead time etc....

    Thanks in advance,

    Hobart.

    Heres what you do...
Get your partner or someone else in the house to apply for a new first time sub at the new address assuming theres a telephone connection there - its the cheapest way of getting a new box.
Cancel your own sub when you get that installed and get your partner or whoever else will be living in the house to upgrade to a mirror sub, giving the details of your old box to sky for the mirror sub.

Dont mention yourself to them at all when applying for the new sub or your old address.

Ask the installer to put on a quad lnb for you(which will cost extra, unless you are getting a sky plus box which costs extra anyway)
Reason being, you can upgrade to sky plus later without having to get an installer out the second time which would be another cost then.
Tell him to put in the 4 cables for you,two to where your main sky box is(and your future sky plus box) and the other two to where ever you want the mirror sub and any future FTA box(handy for radio) if you want.

As for lead in time,if you use sky's agent, they will tell you, could be days or weeks.
But for instant service(except at busy times like XMAS) go to an independent retailer, but they will cost more.

If you are using the guys sky themselves will send you, get their moby number and explain that you want the quad for the mirror sub and a future sky plus box and that you want to wire a third room( a bedroom say...) with the third spare connection( there will be 2 cables going to your living room, as sky plus needs 2(-so one unused while you just have an ordinary digibox there and untill you get the plus box)
The extras will cost you more so get a price on them.
Theres a couple of Irish installers that we know about on this board, you'll find them on the sticky thread at the top of the forum.

Thanks for that Earthman!! So should I just leave my existing Dish at my current residence, or should I take it with me? Is it possible to fit a quad LNB to my current dish (a pretty vague and probably silly question). Is there any advantage/dis-advantage is ordering sky+ straight away?

    Cheers,

    Hobart.

You can order sky plus straight away for the new connection, but its costly for the box.
It may be subsidised now, others that got it recently, will let you know.
You can order the mirror sub at the same time, you should get both cards within a couple of days but will only be charged when they are activated.

A new quad lnb comes with the sky plus box, you will have to buy one if you arent getting the box now, so if you want the recording facilities and have sports and movies( which means plus facilities are free ) then yes ordering it at the start with the new connection makes sense.

You will need enough cable, but who ever is installing it will sort that out and charge accordingly.

Your existing dish should be able to take a standard sky type quad if its a minidish.
you neednt take down your existing dish when you move by the way, the new connection will include standard cable lengths and a new dish.

on a related issue..... I have sky+ and a fta box from my dish, ie 3 cables. i will be moving to temporary accomadation soon for about a year (building house in the mean time). I want to keep the dish and 3 cables running in the temp. house. Would I be better off getting someone to move my dish, quad lnb and cables, or if I left the dish and took up sky's 'moving home' offer would it be cheaper?
