What a rip-off this tournie was:

Tournament was run by 3-4 young lads working under the name ‘JEN’. The cards they used were ‘Diamond Club’ – is that a casino at the junction of leeson st and Adelaide road? The chips were decent aswell but the tables were terrible – just normal bar tables with a thin bit of silky material thrown over them – this wrecked my head as it kept moving and led to cards and chips falling off the table.

I reckon there was about 65 players though I didn’t do an exact count each buying in for €10. This got you 1500 chips and blinds started at 25/50 so it wasn’t too bad considering they had to have it finished by closing time. Rebuys for €10 for 1500 chips were available for the first 1.5 hours and then there was a top-up option for €10 for 3000 chips (blinds were at 300/600 by then) before the freezeout began.

There must have been at the very least 8 or 9 rebuys on my table before the freezeout and the majority of people bought the top-up aswell. As a conservative guess I would reckon they took in at least €800 in rebuys and top-ups. The prize fund was a dismal €700. There was also a €3 registration fee which should have covered any setup costs (i.e. free room in a pub, chips, cards and that’s pretty much it – they didn’t have any computer screen showing tournie details/updates). I reckon that the prize fund ended up being pretty much half of what they took in which is a disgrace if you ask me.

Other major gripes were the fact that the blinds jumped from 400/800 to 1000/2000 at 10.05 by which time we were down to 3 tables. A few of us pushed back on this but they insisted on it and for me it ruined the whole balance of the game. When we were down to two tables there was a lot of shouting from spectators at the other table and it was rowdy enough to wreck everyones’ heads at my table and pretty much led to me going on tilt (which is something I’ll have to address) and making a dodgy call that got beat by a rivered flush to knock me out in 14th spot.

Luke from the Fitz was at my table and was pretty sound so I guess knowing a face will make it less daunting when I finally make that first trip in there. Devore was also at my table briefly and seemed equally pissed of at the blatant rip-off and poor organisation – I’d be interested in hearing more of his idea about an Irish Poker Players Association.

Oh yeh, I know the lad who won it and he’s only 17 so fair play to him!

The only people that won were the organisers. I'd have got up and demanded my money back.

They shouldn't have been allowed advertise on here without giving more info.
I don't know why people go to these event in Dublin when the casino's offer so much better value.

I agree - it was daylight robbery. I voiced my displeasure loudly but wasn't prepared to storm out as I was up at that stage and was really playing for the experience and never really expected to get into the money so it wasn't going to affect me.

The reason people like myself play these tournaments is that they are local, will be ended by a reasonable hour which allows me to play midweek and still work the next day, and are less daunting than the casinos and have a lower standard of player than the casinos. However, enough is enough and this one has pissed me off so much that I won't be getting involved in these anymore - another couple of weeks reading up and practising online and I'll give it a whirl in the Fitz. Sunday freeroll sounds good - what time would this be finished at? And are there any €10 or €20 no limit holdm tournaments on Fridays or Saturdays?

Sunday freeroll starts at around 6pm-6.30pm, final table could continue until 9pm or so.
There's no €10 or €20 NL hold'em tournaments (apart from the freeroll). The nearest you get are the Sit'n'Gos for €10 but these aren't regularly organised.
