Using meteor sim in non-meteor phone.

I want to buy an ngage qd from meteor. However, my main operator is vodafone and i want to keep it that way. I have a second phone atm for ringing the girlfriend on meteor using the 5cent calls. I also want to keep on using that sim as i get a free €10 each month when i top up by €20 euros the previous month. The phone itself costs €150 from meteor and I get €80 credit with it spread over a period of five months. So i figure, i'll use the vodafone sim in my ngage and use either of the two meteor sims in my current phone just to get the best value out of the credit. However, a friend of mine sitting beside me in this lab tells me, if i put the meteor sim that i get with the phone into another phone then i stop getting the free credit (€80) that comes with the phone. Is this true. Can meteor actually detect what phone i'm using with my sim.

Edit: Oh before anyone talks about unlocking: I know all about the free nokia unlock code generators on the web so unlocking the phone isn't a problem.

    Hi
He's right. Meteor actually lock that sim card to the phone (using the IMEI number), so each time the imei number and sim card number show up on their network, they must be together.

This is a bit of a pain, although...... once you use €20 credit off the Meteor card, you can then swap it between phones :)

    Hope this helps

Yep, your friend and wolfman are both right. I know from experience.

Last July I bought a Motorola V300 on Meteor, unlocked it and used my O2 SIM in it. But then I tried the Meteor SIM in a Nokia 3310 and they disabled it completely. I called them to get it re-enabled but I had to leave the SIM in the V300 until I spent at least €20 on the account. Once I spent €20 I could swap them around as much as I wanted.

Thanks for your help wolfman. Just to clarify two things though. When u get the phone first and u register, u get €30 I believe. So your telling me that once i've used up €20 of this credit I can swap the card and still recieve the remaining €50 credit i'm entitled to. And number two, how sure are u of this. I don't want to swap sims only to find out i've wasted €50 credit.

A side note though. If i'm using the ngage with the vodafone sim together. How would meteor know what imei i have unless i make a call to a meteor network or someone rings me from meteor.

Actually I just figured out the answer as soon as i asked that question. It's when i put my meteor sim into a non nokia phone that the problem occurs. But, do i still get all the credit once i have spent the €20.

@Karsini thanks for your help too.

Like you said, it doesnt matter if you are using the Vodafone card in the N-Gage, but the minute you put the Meteor card into ANY phone, and switch it on, other than the phone it was supplied with (doesnt matter if it is nokia or non-nokia), the Meteor network will see that sim card registering on their network with a different IMEI number and block the card.

To answer the other question regarding whether you still get the full balance, all I can say is yes, SO FAR, this has always worked and Meteor have always had this condition in place, but, if they do happen to change it, I can't guarantee you.

    Thanks wolfman,

just one more question. Do I have to buy a seperate €20 credit and use it up or can I just use €20 of the credit that it comes with? I assume it's the former.

I think its just the credit they give you that you have to use. But i could be wrong.. Ring em and ask

    Yes, orla is right
Up to now anyway, you just need to have used up €20 of the credit that comes with the phone
