The only bits about mine that stand out:

i have, but money is a little tight and, tbh, i am simply afraid of trying to take the processor out - i'll take cards and ram out no bother, but the processor just scares me! is it not really really easy to screw everything up messing with the processor.

Getting the heatsink off (and fitting a new one) are the hardest part. If you're not careful you can do some serious damage. But if you are careful it should be fine. Make sure you have some thermal paste. Those sticky pad things that come with most heatsinks are crap.

RTFM and you will be fine.

The heat sink is usually harder to mount that the processor.

*remembers old zalman flower cooler on older box taking 1/2 hr to mount girrrr
