HollyHead to Cardiff?

Hey, a couple of friends and myself are thinking of traveling to cardiff for a gig during the summer. I've been checking prices and the ferry from Dun Laoghaire to Hollyhead is the cheapest option, the others being a direct flight to Cardiff, or a train to Rosslare and a ferry to Fishguard, which would leave us closer to Cardiff but the extra train fares up the price some.

Anyways back to the origonal question, has anyone traveled from Hollyhead to Cardiff? As far as i can tell from some net reseach there is no direct train from Holyhead to Cardiff, a change at Crewe is needed, anyways has anyone made this journey, and roughly how much did it cost?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    JB

Never done it but cant Imagine it will anything but a 'mare. Holyhead is the arse-end of nowhere. Its about a 2.5-3 hour drive in a car. With the crappy trains that operate in that neck of the woods I cant see it being any less time.

I don't think there are any direct services, but Crewe is a big station and I've changed there a few times - it's not too bad.

Train journey is going to take about 5 hours though, which is pretty long. The fair will vary depending on when your travelling, how far in advance you book etc etc

The little extra that you'd pay on direct flights (might actually be no more expensive) will be worth a lot more than a ferry trip and tedious train journeys through wales... Saving time and stress to be honest.

Believe me... its not worth it.

Try and book your flights well in advance. Get yourself down to ryanair now and get the cheap fairs...

Yeah judging by my origional hunch and the conformation of which by you very kind folks, were going to fly, its 15 euro dearer than the boat alone, never mind train fares etc.

Thanks for all the help can't wait to go now, only 2 months to wait!

It would be about 7-9 hours ferry and train, it is a long journey because there is no rail line through central wales it is a circular route. Return fare is €88
