Hi all,Got a nokia 5210 from a friend which hasnt been used for ages and when i connect the charger,it doesnt charge nor does it turn on.

My question is if the battery was shagged would the phone still operate from the charger direct? The battery is a BLB-2.

Nice phone, was gonna give it to my daughter.

Anyone any info re.above?or spare battery any where?

    Kind regards,kieran

afaik, no. you'd need some power going through the battery to get the phone to turn on, even if you had it connected to the mains. easy way to find out if the battery is dead is take it into a carphone warehouse or preferably a nokia service centre. worst case scenario is maybe you'll have to buy a new battery.

Check it with another charger. If you bring it to a Nokia service centre and it's outside warranty, they'll charge you a good bit just to look at it, AFAIK.
It may not be the battery. The on/off switch could be broken, or the bit where the charger goes into the phone.
Batteries can also be quite expensive, 33e on expansys, more in shops.

Hi,thanks for the replies,i know the charger is okay, so it must be the battery.

    Anyone have a spare one?

Or should i just scrap and get another phone for her?

    regards kieran

How long did you leave it plugged in Kieran???
I know this sounds mad, but if a phone is out of action for a long time (ie...MONTHS), it can sometimes take as long as 20-30 minutes before the charge starts to even register. If that doesn't work, let me know. I might have a spare battery, but its possible you won't need one

    Hi
Just checked on the battery. Sorry. Its actually a BLD-3. If its any good, I can stick it in the post for you anyway
<EDIT>It didnt have any charge, but I have just put it into a 5210 I have here and plugged in the charger and its charging fine and staying on a the moment. Its more or less the same battery anyway, just .1 V in the difference and slightly thinner</EDIT>

Hi wolfman,I am kinda worried in case its something else wrong instead of the battery.
If its not from a working mobile it would be worth a try but not otherwise,
You can cancel this no problem with no hard feelings.

    Kind regards, kieran

Check out ebay for batteries, if you want to go down that route. I've bought 2 batteries from there for different nokias, and both have been perfect. You can really save some money when compared to shops. Look here for instance

    Kieran
Try Freedom Mobiles in North Main Street Shopping Centre and look for Tony. He should be able to help you out.
