the standard's pretty high and i was one of the only ones there without frames, they all seem to be rich post grads in TAW! some of them wer'e even asking 300eur+ for their paintings, a goldmine if you can tap the industry!

trinity's probably the best college in ireland for it's free wine receptions. i wonder where they store all their wine...

    Probably Lidl or M&S.

On a more interesting note, i have heared rumour of a massive wine cellar somewhere beneath front square.

/me must look into that someday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,382 ✭✭✭snorlax

i heard there's wine cellars somewhere underground where they keep the really good wine. Apparently students once broke into it and drank loads of the wine so they tightened up on security. i dont know if it's only speculation though!

most of the wine at these reception thingys tends to be abit dodgey, but i have been to a few more select ones where they'v had decent stuff. eg every year the junior dean invites some members of the select societies etc to a wine reception in freshers week as a PR stunt. Now the wine at that was pretty good and especially when the person in charge of disipline in the college was pouring my glass!

Er, iirc there are wine cellars under front square. when a mate of mine was working in ISS he had to go into em to check cabling that had been run through. apparently pretty impressive.

yeah apparently a lot of trinity's "wealth" is in bottle form.

easiest way to run into tcd's underground cabling stuff for a normal type is to go under the museum building..... its all tunnelish with plenty of cabling , didn't see how far it goes tho... :/

you can get to the cellers from house 6.

How would one seek entry into said tunnels? I'd imagine it's a bit more complex than just walking in..

Hmmm...I've wandered all over the Museum Building. A few people have even made it onto the roof...there's a way onto it via the drawing office, but they now say the door is alarmed and I haven't gone out there yet.

The bottom of the Museum Building - you can go into the room with the network connections and it looks like it used to lead through to the old library, but was cut off. You can see the exit from outside the Museum Building.

I also wandered down in House 6 one time it was open, and there are network connections down there. I didn't stay long, but it was cool enough...must go exploring next year...

There was another time when I was going into the buttery on the left hand side, and the black door (the one with the ramp?) was open, and the passage downstairs was also open but I didn't go any further.

The passages in the Old Library are cool too...

Sounds like an uncharted world just awaiting our intrepid explorers. I've a mobile-mounted torch, am I in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

Is there no security? I'd imagine they have swipe doors or something to stop every engineering/geography student from just wandering around down there..

Yeah I saw that one day too a couple of years ago, I thought it was some kind of dungeon though (oh what a silly child I was).

    Night-vision goggles > miner's torch!

Firstly, how did the exibition go snorxlax.

secondly, i went down stairs at the M4 room towards the toilets and couldnt go any further. how do i explore the catacombs of the museum building?

There aren't catacombs, it looks like there were but it was closed off. Down to the toilets, then straight ahead is a boiler room / network room. That's as far as I've gone anyways.

    Try the roof.

    "Cook" = order by telephone

are you within a 2mile radius of a delivery chipper. best food a ring tone can buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I was going to just leave your post unanswered and make people think you were strange(r than normal) but funnily enough I am close to a delivery chipper. One that has a collaborative with the Dominoes Pizza next door so you can order chips from the chipper and a pizza and the Dominoes man will bring you both. Luxery or what?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

    that is flippin cool.

Too bad 4 Star is muck. But then if you're getting your beer delivered it balances out nicely.

That IS good...I'm in between you and John, with a pizzeria that will deliver chips from a chipper AND Indian/Chinese from the takeaways, as well as your pizza. But they don't deliver alcohol, even though the off-licence is between their premises! Argh!
