Thermite reaction

    Hey.

I'm doing a school assignment, a chemistry project; thermite reaction.

The only downside is, that we must require the chemicals ourselves, and here in this country, it's not possible to get any of those by purchasing them from the local pharmacy.

So, how do I get iron oxide and aluminum -powder?

Iron oxide is rust, right? So can it be created as following:

Water to a box, salt into the water, iron item to the salted water (and 9V battery's negative and positive wires attached to the iron item? -I hear this has some effect to make the iron to rust faster?)?

And how to make aluminum powder? Simply drilling through an aluminum plate a thousand times would take a while, so is there a way to get aluminum powder, or to do so with not so much efford?

And for the "fuse", what to use? It takes about 2400 Celsius to make the thermite ignite, so it would require magnesium "fuse", wouldn't it? - How to get magnesium? Or is there another way to ignite the thermite?

    Thanks in advance.

this sounds suspiciously like something directly from the anarchist's handbook

-Excuse me? Thermite reaction is a popular chemistry project subject, at least in my country, so whether you think I'm going to do some illegal activities, doesn't bother me none.

    try making Napalm, is easier,
plus most ingredients are available in the supermarket.
    Google for the ingredients.

but seriously, I would have expected that a school project would mean something like making electricity from a Potatoe, but not create a chemical that will burn a hole through your entire school.
    might step down a little

    what country is that?

how are we supposed to help you unless we know what country you are from?

he is from the country that no longer exists because they had thermite problems

Oh I would have *loved* to see you going into the pharmacy...
"Hi there, I'm doing a science experiment for school and I need some ingredients
     - can you help?"

    ~"Sure, what do you need?"

"mmm.....Potassium Chloride, Carbolic Acid, Magnesium Strips,
two large bottles of Bleach and Iodine, 6ozs of Black Powder,
    Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium, Saltpeter...."

    :D
I really don't think anyone cares whether you make thermite or not, as long as you don't make some laughable excuse why or what for. At the same time I'm guesing you're about the 14yr mark so I'd *really* advise against trying this as you'll probably end up melting your kitchen table/hand : Thermite is LETHAL and incredibly hard to put out. If you want to make something explosive and (relatively) safe then you'd be better off trying to make Iodine Crystals, I'm sure you'll find the recipe in your "science experiment book"

Just waiting for a Mod to lock this thread.
in the meantime don't feed the troll
the school could not ask them to do it if the stuff isn't available
