Laptop Sound Problem

I've got a Packard Bell Easynote notebook (only bought it last August).
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that when I play music either from MP3 files and from regular audio CDs and DVDs the sound is high pitched. The best way to describe it is i'ts as if everyone singing/talking has just inhaled a load of helium - no Bee Gees gags please ;0)

Help me! It's doing my nut in, the strange thing is when I burn a CD the sound plays from the CD or MP3 player as normal.

By your description, it sounds like the files are playing at higher than normal speed (e.g. twice normal speed). If this is the case, the software you are using should have a setting to play it at various speeds - just set it back to play at normal speeds.

Try Windows Media Player, or download the likes of WinAmp.

It could also be that the software renderer for the audio hardware has treble up the max, and bass all the way down.

Go into sound properties in ctrl panel, you should be able to sort it out.
    Or buy external speakers.

i might be way of here ,but have you downloaded any new codec's lately ...sometimes there can be conflicts between different codec's or ..if you had installed a new dvd program for example it can cause your music to sound like the smurf's..but as i say said i might be miles of the mark..if thats the case you can either uninstall the program or codec ...or maybe try a system restore to a date before when you copped you had the problem....
