How people’s religious moral beliefs influence their views on justice issues

    Age:26

    Religion:Non practising Catholic

Justice Issue No.1: Right to Life

    a) Is abortion morally wrong? Yes, if used as a form of birth control.
    b) Is abortion wrong in the case of rape/ the mother’s life is at risk? Rape - yes, excluding incestuous rape and cases where mother's life is at risk, eg, depression which could lead to suicide.. Mother's life at risk, it depends on stage of pregnancy.. if known in early pregnancy, Mother's life in my view would get preference, if later in pregnancy, eg, baby will survive, this is more complicated. Its just not a black and white issue to me.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

I don't think my religion has anything to do with it, I think its more my upbringing and society.

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry? yes
    b) Adopt a child.? Yes

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

Religion would be opposed to both, so definitely has nothing to do with it.

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia

    a) Is Suicide morally wrong? No, just a waste.
    b) If a person discussed the possibility of suicide/euthanasia with their family and had support, would it be morally wrong? No.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

    No influence whatsoever.

    Religion: Agnostic

    b) Is abortion wrong in the case of rape/ the mother’s life is at risk? No

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

No influence - Down to personal views on subject.

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry? Yes
    b) Adopt a child.? Yes

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

Again, no influence - I am openminded about LGBT's, so I would like to afford them the same rights as heterosexual couples. It makes sense.

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia

    a) Is Suicide morally wrong? No, sometimes it is the only way out. I respect people with the guts to take that step, even tho I may think it is a terrible waste
    b) If a person discussed the possibility of suicide/euthanasia with their family and had support, would it be morally wrong? No, again it is an option, however abhorrent, that must be considered. If living is truly so horrible that death is preferable, that preference must at least be addressed (if not embraced)

No influence - However my belief in a higher power does mean that I would view death as a doorway to something else, not an end as such.

How people’s religious moral beliefs influence their views on justice issues

    Age: 22

Religion: none (born into a catholic household)
Justice Issue No.1: Right to Life

    a) Is abortion morally wrong? morally no, but no human being has the right to take anothers life no matter what age or state of development. and/or without the consent of BOTH parents.
    b) Is abortion wrong in the case of rape/ the mother’s life is at risk? yes, may sound callus but there are options such as giving the child up for adoption in the case of rape(at least the child will have a life) and if the mothers life is at risk the childs life should always come first if it has a greater possibility of survival.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

    1) does not influence me in any way (i make my own informed decisions)
    2) is against it

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry? yes
    b) Adopt a child.? yes as they would have to follow the same procedures for adoption as any other couple and are therefore deemed suitable to raise a child. sexual preference has no place in childhood.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

1)does not influence me in any way (i make my own informed decisions)
    2)is against it

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia

    a) Is Suicide morally wrong? morally no but is the most selfish act any person can perform. i have seen from first hand experience how a person ends their pain only to shatter the lives of their family. any pain can be healed with enough time and if you end your life you will never have that time.
    b) If a person discussed the possibility of suicide/euthanasia with their family and had support, would it be morally wrong? no, but only in extreme curcumstances where physical pain leaves no quality of life.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

1)does not influence me in any way (i make my own informed decisions)
    2)is against it.

To end any human life is wrong whether it be your own or somebody elses. I cannot say with confidence though that the church influences me on this view.

The church opposes both suiside and euthanasia.

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry?yes, if they love each other.if there is a god out there why would he/she deny any person the right of a loving unionb)
Adopt a child.?yes.if a person makes a good parent why not there are more than enough bad straight parents out there
For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia

    a) Is Suicide morally wrong?no definately not.again if there is a god he/she should understand when someone cannot carry on living anymoreb) If a person discussed the possibility of suicide/euthanasia with their family and had support, would it be morally wrong? discussing it is not wrong.i believe in a persons right to die at their own hand but when others enter the equation the lines between murder/manslaughter and assissted suicide can become very blurred
For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.
i am not religious and therefore i form my opinions from my own principles and my own personal beliefs of what is right or wrong. any possibility of heaven/hell or religion of any sort has no bearing on my decisions or opinions in life, whatsoever__________________[/QUOTE]

Religion:Unsure(A hope that there is purpose in our conciousness)

Justice Issue No.1: Right to Life

    a) Is abortion morally wrong? Yes as birth control. People have to remember life has been created no matter how horrible the situation.
    b) Is abortion wrong in the case of rape/ the mother’s life is at risk?No but again people have to remember life has been created no matter how horrible the situation. Two wrongs don't necessarily make a right.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry? Two people in love should be granted the right to marry regardless of their respective genders.
    b) Adopt a child.? As long as it doesn't effect the child in a negative way.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia

    a) Is Suicide morally wrong? My beliefs at the moment tell me that I have no idea.
    b) If a person discussed the possibility of suicide/euthanasia with their family and had support, would it be morally wrong? No. I believe if a person's life as they new it has been destroyed, can never be rebuilt and they are suffering then the right to chose should be given. It is a situation I hope I never find myself in.

Justice Issue No.1: Right to Life

    a) Is abortion morally wrong? Yes
    b) Is abortion wrong in the case of rape/ the mother’s life is at risk? yes

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.Taking a life is wrong no matter what.it is the exact same thing as killing a person or your own child etc.if a person is raped why should the baby die? it has done nothing.

religion does not affect me in anyway as regards what is wrong or right in these cases i know full well myself without some1 telling me which is correct

    Justice Issue No. 2: Equality

Should Gay people have the right to:

    a) Marry? Yes
    b) Adopt a child.? Yes
they 'should' have the right in a better society but as things are now i think the slagging/abuse they would recieve in primary/seconday school is unfair, they would have been ripped apart in school by knackers etc. so i think ya they should but the parents would be selfish to do it unless they could ensure no traumatic events for their child because of it,they can't.

For each of the questions above please explain how your religion influences your beliefs in these issues and what your religion has to say about these issues.

Religion does not influence my views on this matter
    My religion opposes both.

    Justice Issue No. 3 Suicide/Euthanasia
