My brother is working and living in Switzerland. He is getting married in July and the wedding will be held in Berne, where he is living.

Can anyone tell me anything about Berne, what is there to do? I would love to go ski-ing but obviously that out with it being July. What history has Berne? Is it near any other places of interest.

I'm just interested to hear what others have experienced of the place.

July is a nice time to visit Switzerland.

Bern itself is a cool place with plenty to see and do, though most/all of the rest of the country is near enough by public transport. All trains run every hour, Zurich, Basel and Lausanne are all under an hour away.

    Things to definitely do:

    x Lucerne
x Thun/Interlaken/Jungfrau Region --> could do a nice circular roundtrip by train .. Bern - Thun - Interlaken (could also do a bit by boat) - then over the Brunig Pass into Lucerne - back to Bern, or if you wanted to extent it come back via Zurich taking the Voralpen Express to Rapperwil, than SBahn to Zurich.

x Geneva lake region is also nice (could do say Montreux and Geneva in a day)

Train fares are on the expensive side so try to get some kind of pass.

I know the country rather well, so any particular questions you have just ask.
