Laptop and wireless issue

I'm not 100% up to speed on wireless and using a laptop while overseas. But basically I got myself a laptop which will do me for the next few months until I splash out on one for gaming etc. It has a wireless card in it so I think I can use the net on it. Also my PC which I'm using here also has a wireless card installed, could I use the laptop to share my internet connection without having to buy a router? And also while at airports how would I go about using the wireless connections that they have/offer. Would I need some software or just the basics. Any info would be helpful as I'm flying off tomorrow morning. Thanks
