Epilators - Any good?

I usually wax my legs, but I think it's gross having to wait for the hair to grow long enough for it to be waxed again. Someone mentioned that an epilator might be a good idea, cos you can use them more often and it works out cheaper in the long run. I've looked at a few brands of epilator but I'm conscious that they're just trying to sell a product, they mightn't be telling the whole truth. Has anyone on this board ever used an epilator, or know anyone who has? Are they actually any good? If so, what brands are the best to get?

My other half has an epilator and finds it good. She only has to use it once a month and over time has found that it weakens the hair growth. However its a sensation that takes getting used to but if you can hack the waxing it shouldn't be a bother to you. I think its a phillips model that she has.

This is relates to something I really don't get. Why would you choose to wax your legs only every now and then if you could shave them and have nicer legs more often...as opposed to hiding them until you can show off for a few days and then put them away again?! Surely having great legs for only a few days doesn't really make sense?

So shavings a pain...most lads have to deal with it everyday.

    Care to enlighten me?

Some girls don't have a choice. Some have hair that grows incredibly fast (i.e. - shave in the morning, stubble by night), some have hair that's too dark (i.e. you will still be able to see the hair follicles under the skin if u shave), some get a rash from shaving against the grain and some prefer not to have to shave everyday (there's much more hair on a girl's legs than on a guy's chin.)

Reasons I use epilator as oppose to wax:
No messy wax all over the place
No skin rash from wax irritation
Can use with hair only a few mm long
Takes 1/2 the time as wax.
    Cheaper in the long run

It does hurt, but pop an aspirin b4 hand and do it after a hot shower.

    Fair enough I guess.

Epilators are the electrical equivilent then so?

Regrowth from shaving tends to be thicker,so thats why girls choose waxing over shaving.

it doesn't hurt as much as people say it does and certainly not as much as waxing and in the long term it'll save you the money!!!!

Shaving irritates my skin terribly - and the thoughts of shaving my legs every couple of days makes me cringe... I would find it really uncomfortable! I've tried a lot of different razor brands, moisturizers and so on, but nothing makes it tolerable, not to mention terribly attractive. Goodness, the things you reveal about yourself on this message board...

As for the epilator ... I have one and find it incredibly difficult to use. It's like having 30 tweezers on the go at one time. I find that it's a much sharper pain than waxing - or perhaps I've just become used to the sensation from years of waxing sessions! I find that waxing leaves my skin a lot smoother too.

Anyway, if you want good reviews of epilators, have you had a look at Google Groups? Just run the exact name of whatever products you're interested in and see what reviews come up.

They are brilliant, scarey to use at first, a lot of angry wizzing sounds. Best used on smaller areas, crap for legs to be totally hair free.
