We have a Social Club here in work with roughly 50 members, and we're looking for ideas for events. Have you something similar in your company, and if so, what have you done or what have you planned? Any useful ideas would be appreciated.

We have a decent budget, so the more upmarket ideas are welcome too.

Well it looks like everyone on the boards either doesnt have a job, or doesnt have a S&S club in their place of employment??

Come on, surely you can do better than that!

i used to be on the S&S committee when i worked in NEC many years ago.

to be honest, apart from the larger events like an annual dinner dance, raffles at christmas and stuff like that, i cant recall us doing an awful lot.
i know we did do other things.

    we did a monthly raffle.

i also recall setting up a number of table quizes down the local pub, but because we were looking after 4 shifts, we had to do 4 times the organising. maybe its why it always took so long to organise.

waht sor to fthings do you do now?

patience is a virtue. not everyone browses while youa re waiting on an answer.
expecially since its only been 45 minutes since you asked.

We have a quiz tomorrow night, already have had an 80's night and a trip to the dogs at Shelbourne Park, which was the best so far. There a BBQ in the pipeline, but that wont be until mid-June when the weather inproves, and over the summer, the outdoor activities will become more of an option. Bowling has been mentioned in the meantime, it's cheap and easy, but it a bit uninspiring to be honest!

Book the Party Barge on the Grand Canal. It's expensive but if the budget can stretch to it it'll be a great event. 50 is an idea number for it too...

last november we went down to a hotel in a village outside sligo for two nights, (took the whole hotel over in fact)
it was a total, drunken blast and I would recommend giving it a go sometime! :D

they also go to the greyhounds quite a bit, I haven't done that one as of yet, but it's meant to be a good night out.

    /edit
some hotels do murder mystery weekends

    Thanks for your suggestions...

Beruthiel, the greyhounds is a blast. You can organise a group booking like we did, with €5 free bet and a couple of drinks, and it works out very reasonable. It quickly brings out the Gamblor in all of us!

EringoBrath, do you know if the Party Barge has a site online, or where I could find out more info?

    ...cheers

    Don't bother mate... it's pants!
Never been on it, but I work just beside it, and whenever I see people on it, it just looks terrible.
For the price, you may as well just do a pub crawl around Baggot St and go wander up the canal after and say hello to the ducks.
For a much better experience, I think there's a company doing speedboat trips around Dublin Bay, docking somewhere near the Clarion Hotel in the IFSC.
We brought clients on it last summer.... then all headed to the Harbourmaster for a bash.

There's still all the old realiables like the dogs... maybe organise a treasure hunt (fancy pub crawl) around town.... Go Karting..... Paintballing....

Just don't do something crap like 'a night at the races' or even karaoke is pretty played out at this stage...

Paintball, karting, bbq, sailing/canoeing etc are all pretty fun....as are casino nights!
