Wireless signal strength?

I'm using a Belkin setup and the "Wireless Monitor" tells me my signal strength is anywhere from 68% to 78%, usually about 74% Is this good, bad or indifferent? what's yours? how far apart are the transmitter/receivers etc? Does a lower signal strength affect download speed for example??
