Is is possible to build a PC for this?

I'm looking to either buy one or build one for the folks... I can get one from dell for this for their lowest end machine... but can a better one it be built for this?

Can we make it a boardsie challenge? Find the best spec for no more than €250. :D

Anyway, do you want that to include or exclude postage?

Lets give it a chance and say postage extra... (as long as we don't have to ship if from the states!)

CPU has to be of the newer gen. Not PIII and all that. Mmmmmmm sounds like a challenge

If that price includes the monitor then it will be very hard.

I'd say ebaying secondhand parts would be the only way to go for this.

Do you have any spare parts yourself? (even your mates?)

i.e. monitor, harddrives, optical drives etc...

Impossible. If you can get a second hand monitor, and stretch the budget another €50-€80 i'd so its do-able, but if you have to get everything for 250, not a hope in hell unless you go second hand.

Once you get that all you need is a monitor

... and an OS and a keyboard and a mouse and speakers and ... €250 for a complete (new) functional pc is not possible.

OMG!! Just checked the dell website, you can buy a full pc, 17" crt, 40gig HD, celeron 2.4GHz, 256Mb Ram, XP Home and Works 7 for €329 inc VAT and delivery... that's as cheap as you're likely to get a new pc for from anywhere!!! And it includes a 1 year warranty. If you're looking for cheap you won't get better value than that. Can always upgrade the HD and memory later if you want.

ok so the story is my folks have an old PII gateway PC with a fairly decent monitor keyboard and mouse, I don't need any speakers...

I could use the case I guess but would a new motherboard fit?

That deal from komplett sounds like the best bet so far...

I'm not looking for high spec at all... just the bare minimum for email and office apps... I also have Windows XP Pro ready to install...

You need a new case + psu. At least €50 and thats for the gammiest qtec case you can buy with the worst quality power supply ever.

€80 for a much better quality antec case + psu that won't fry your parts

At the price you are buying at, buying from dell is nearly the cheapest.

Cheapest build i could get out of komplett with out getting truly crap parts
    was €333.

    MSI K8M NEO-V, K8M800, Socket-754, ATX ,S-ATA/ATA, DDR, LAN, Sound, AGP8x, VGA €73

    AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.6GHz Socket 754, 128KB, BOXED w/fan €77

    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 256MB CL2.5 Memory €25

    Antec SLK1650B Miditower, Black w/350W PSU €79

LG DVD Drive 16x52 GDR-8163RBB Black OEM €22

    Samsung SpinPoint P80 80GB IDE ATA/133 2MB 7200RPM €57
