the power cennector on the back of my toshiba p15-s409 is bust. the pin in the middle broke off and the connector itself is loose. hte headphone jack is also loose

the repair place said i need a new mother board. which costs €667.

the laptop still works when i get a battery charged up using a friends laptop.

so, the story is this. i was thinking of trying to repair it myself and possibly spend the €667 on a new laptop in the US, i am going there on thursday.

    €667=$885, so was thinking around $1000-1200, i want pentium M 1.5 ghz, 512mb, 60GB HD, DVD -rw(or +rw)

anyone know a good laptop to get?

also anyone know how i may be able to charge the battery on the old laptop by bypassing the motherboard

Hi themole, you might be able to get a charger for the battery - we got chargers for some of our guys in work...maybe give BMS a call as they handle Toshiba repairs...

You can probably find a replacement board on ebay for a lot less than that. Laptops are tricky enough to work on, though. But getting a new laptop in the States would probably make more sense, if you want to spend the money.

A soldering iron, a new power connector (€0.50, Peats/Maplin) and some solder.

    €667 my arse.

ya, thats what i was thinking, but only prob is if the tracks are off the board.

even if they are i was thinking of rigging up power directly into where the battery powers the laptop, leave it on a table as a "desktop" and get a new portable laptop in the states.

as far as BMS goes, thats who are quoting me the price.

do you mean a device for charging the battery on its own, ie not when its in the laptop?, if this is so not really any use as battery use is only 1.5 hrs
