Sonia O'Sullivan not Irish shock?

Not much publicity on the board about Sonias 8th place in the London Marathon last week.
Maybe everyone is as confused as I am about whether this was Sonias last appearance for Ireland or first for Australia.

Fair dinkum Cobber I say. She has worn the Irish vest (er more happily if her agent approved of the manufacturer) with much distinction for more than a decade.

Good luck Sonia. Look forward to seeing you on Home and Away

She hasn't got her Aussie nationality yet.

And if she does, she's only using it to compete in the CG in Melbourne next year.

I don't believe there was any mention of the London Marathon on this forum at all.

I'm surprised the "Armchair athletes" weren't posting about Paula's "stomach cramps" or Sonia's 8th placing.

There was some coverage of her marathon performance on Newstalk 106 in Dublin, but very little on any of the other stations. I think a lot of the Irish public aren't interested in her at all any more, nothing to do with her decision to apply for Australian citizenship, but more to do with what they perceive as her poor performances over recent years. The media have seen this general decline in interest so don't give her as much attention any more.

It's a pity really, I'll continue to follow her performances anyway, best of luck to her in the Commonwealth games etc.

    Sonia was never Irish anyway.

Careful now, Roy Keane might take issue with you there.

Why do people insist in calling things like this a "shock", it's common knowledge, it's the same with "Cragg in not Irish shock".

Oh no she's not. She is from the Independant Republic of Cobh. Completely different, boy! Are you trying to start a civil war? ;)

I put the headline "Sonia not being Irish shock" as a piece of irony....sorry you missed it.
I think the use of the word "shock" when clearly something isnt a shock at all is generally accepted as a device pointing up the lazy attitude of tabloid sports journalism and sports sub editors where eveything is "shock horror amazing brilliant". I also sought to parody the Cragg thread (you may have noted my support for his Irishness)

Clearly Sonia is Irish....I just wanted to highlight the omission of the LOndon Marathon on Board...and at the same time highlight the obsession with nationality on the Board as I thought that Sonias declaration for Australia was at least as worthy of comment as Craggs declaration for Ireland or "Kenyans being hired" by DEnmark....I detected a double standard.
