Was in Esso in Rathmines and picked up a brochure for a new DVD rental system www.movielink.ie
Outlets in Santry, Artane, Glasnevin, Rathmines, Tallaght and Lucan.
    2 EURO a DVD for 24 hour rental! :D
You need a CC or Debit card and you stick this in the machine and you get the DVD. I assume it charges the card if you're late bringing it back.
    They had
    Incredibles
    Bridget Jones
    Taxi
    L4yer Cake
    Man on Fire
    and various others.

Puts Xtravisions current offer of 2 new releases for 9.75 for 2 nights to shame!

Good idea that!! If it gets more choice and locations it will be a winner i think.

By the way.. you can get new releases at Xtra vision for €2.50 mon - thurs With vouchers on pigsback.com
I never rent full price! Its more economical to go to the cinema (newer movies etc) or buy a dvd!

They have those machines on the continent, on street corners and all.. I don't think they'd last long on street corners in good aul ireland

Wonder what will happen with stolen Credit or Debit cards?
Can see the local "nicknacks" getting a load of DVD's.

Let me tell you, I lived in Barcelona for 2 years, and those things are EXTREMELY handy!!!! :D

It's a lot quicker, a lot cheaper, and let's face it, it's just plain fun!!!!

Don't you just hate it when you go to a video store to rent out a classic film, and you spend ages looking amongst the masses. Seriously, these machines are really handy. You can also rent/return dvds at 5am!!! :)

Having used one - you don't need your pin code
Very cheap, very quick and a good looking machine
    Anyhoo

But like that idea of the rental machines.

I'm sorry but I don't see any information on prices, locations and so on. Only 1 link on that page was the one for the full list...which is quite small.

I'm all for the idea but can anyone explain more?

Too right. I never rent them but went in to look the other day. €5.25 a night! I know a guy who rents and records, I'd sooner pay the extra fiver for the original. You can buy copies on the net for less than that.

I've used movelink quite extensively but theri card charging is dodgy. Once got charged €48 but have also got refunds instead of charges by accident and renting two films caused an overcharge of €8 on returnign the first. Also where it says €2 at the moment, I actually have been charged a mix of €4 and €2.

Always but Always get the machine to print a receipt!!!!

I have used both the movielink and the cinematic machines and greatly prefer the cinematic ones - they are inside, thers more range and if you can watch it quick and get it back (which I do ) then its for nothing - their (if you mean cinematic) website lists 5 locations - I use the one in bath Ave which is a 24 hr shop. Prices are

    <3 Hours €1.50
    3-12 Hours €3.00
    12-24 Hours €4.00
    midnight of next night €5
