    Anyone still use this test?
    http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed/
I used to use it and my results were pretty much what others were getting on eircoms 2 meg connection.
Ive checked it just now for first time in ages and the results are just slighty better than 1meg line.
My administration page for netopia modem says as normal im on 2048/128.
Any ideas how accurate this test is?Has it changed recently?

    Reported 726/125 on ntl 750/128
    all units: kbps

    It does seems fairly accurate.
And yes, the test has changed recently - about a couple of weeks ago the new test came in. iirc BlackNight posted about the new test

Ah just re-read the info on the new java test, its just Opera it acts funny with:
We have also seen issues with Opera, as it does not download content in the same way as other browsers.

Yes! the same thing happened to you as to me, download Cool Beans system info, it has a bandwidth monitor, you see how slowly your speeds pick up, and how much it jumps

your ping has probably got worse too

Irishsptest, is just fine, they didn't change anything, it's eircom who screwed up, cause when irishspeedtest first updates, I was doing just fine maxing out 215kb/s but since last week eircom did something and now the max I get is 150kb/s :(

    try this test
    http://home.eircom.net/speedtest/default.asp?id=1
    1.5mb file

I bet you won't go higher then 185kb/s

and for smaller files you will do much worse, because now speeds pick up very slowly

yea and it sucks tbh, the old one was just great, you could copy and paste the result which made it awesome! I don't know there was a test like that on the web, but now they switched to the damn java :(

We changed it because people were complaining about the test's accuracy.
The java based test may not be copy and paste "friendly" but its results are very accurate.
I added an explanation of what some of the test results mean etc.,:

The test is browser agnostic as it relies on a java applet.
