South Korea plans for Gigabit link broadband 3:12PM
South Korea looks certain to maintain its reputation as the world's most dynamic broadband country with the announcement of plans to install Gigabit links to attract businesses into certain areas.

The super fast lines will be part of a converged network planned for 2010, which will also provide widespread access to speeds between 50Mbps and 100Mbps.

The country is hoping to attract $7.7bn of investment from the private sector, two thirds of which will come from telecoms businesses.

In the US they are getting worried by lack of Gigabit
    http://www.citynet.nl/
"Providing Ubiquitous Gigabit Networks in the United States," issued 14 March, says that our nation must act promptly to ensure that a new generation of broadband networks – of gigabit per second speed – is ubiquitous and available to all. Failure to act will "relegate the U.S. telecommunications infrastructure to an inferior competitive position" and undermine the future of the U.S. economy.

they are worried about lack of a Gigabit connection while Ireland is 'rejoicing' over the speed increase to 2Mbits with a 128kbit upload. Go Ireland!!!

This Gigabit talk is referring to the business community. Gigabit connectivity is available in Ireland to the business community in MAN area's - a bit pricey though.

Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) officially launched its 1 Gbps symmetric service for the residential market. Approximately 800,000 households, out of a total of 2.2 million households in Hong Kong, are wired to receive the service. The 1 Gbps symmetric service is priced at US$215 per month.

    Does not compute...
