No, can't say I've ever used one, but the thoughts of a tube practice amp are encouraging. Probably a good bit off from a mini-mesa, but one can hope?

Try not to be completely taken in by hearing the word "tube" (for a start... they're valves, damn it). :) Email Thomann and ask them for specs.

    Output Power 12-Watts :o
    Speaker Size 8" Celestion :)
    Number of Channels 1
EQ Type Low & High
    Effects N/A
    CD/Tape Input No
    Headphone Jack Yes :)
    External Speaker Output Yes :D
    External Effects Loop No :p
Notes Tone switch switches between USA and UK tones

now that we have the spec, can any of you guys in the know give a more informed opinion about it? i dont like the way it seems to have no overdrive channel as i tend to use the overdive on the amps rather than external effects but i could probably get over it fot 105euro!

    That's a lot of mixed emotions you're showing :D

If i were you i would save up a little bit more and get myself a nice Fender Blues Junior - a small monster of an amp.

its actually more than 5 times the price.... http://www.thomann.de/thoiw6_fender_blues_junior_prodinfo.html

obviously i'd love to get an amp like that, fact is though, i'm piss poor.

Dont pay more than 350 or 400 for it!

There were a couple of second hand ones going on buy and sell (and on the boards, from fitz - but i was too late :( )

400 is very reasonable for an amp like that.

reasonable or not, its still too much for me right now, thanks for the heads up though

If you read the link to the Kustom website that I posted, you'd notice that there is a distortion on it.

is that just an analog effect or true overdrive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

I'd say it's true overdrive. Could be worth investigating. Anyone want to buy something for €130?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

it is true overdrive ..what you sellin??? (i think i might regret sayin this)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I don't know.... yet. Might try and get rid of the bass amp I just bought last week

i got the impression you were thinking of buying the kustom12....

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Aye ;)

Actually, I was going to post a thread about this amp but the Kustom looks more promising.

I wouldnt say that kuston 12 is any better than a marshall valvestate because they both have just the one preamp tube.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeah i'd say the valvestate might be a little bit crunchier on the o/d channel..i'd actually love to hear the o/d on that kustom

That's a description, not a spec! Tbh, it doesn't look great. A single 12AX7 isn't much of an achievement, and it just barely qualifies the amp as being a tube amp at all. I would guess that there's at least another preamp gainstage that is solidstate and the entire amp stage is obviously solidstate as well.

For small and cheap practice amps, I'd get a Vox Pathfinder 10 or 15 if you can find one. I have a bad feeling they may have been discontinued though.
