I might be moving to Southampton in September til June (Doin a primary teaching course hopefully). Just wondering if anyone knows much about the place or is it a good place to be etc?

Southampton University looks good, but because I know nobody there I havent a clue what the rest of the city is like. Thanks for any info!

I was at uni there for 3 years and then stayed living with housemates for another 2 years. The best areas to live are the Polygon or Highfield / Portswood which is close to the uni.

The city centre is very commercialised and a bit soulless really and friday and saturday nights it's best to go out / drink around the student areas such as Polygon or Portswood. The city centre does have a few parks and there is Mayflower park down by the docks which offers some green space.

If you have access to a car you can easily drive to nicer places such as the New Forest, Winchester, Salisbury. Public transport is good by train / bus also, and there are flights from southampton to dublin with flybe.

I'm sure you'll get to know others on the course with whom you can socialise. More info on www.southampton.gov.uk or just look on Google
