Hey me and herself are going to book a holiday over the next few weeks, we have been to portugal, cyprus, spain, greece, all for the usual mad package holidays. Then we have been to paris and prague for city breaks.
Now were lookin for something a bit different, a place we have never been to, we have a budget of up to about 750 each(but that doesnt mean we want to spend it all!) and would like to go somewhere completely different.

We have been thinking about croatia, morocco, egypt or maybe somewhere further out, but we would like some sun!
Anybody got any suggestions and inputs as to where we should head off to?

    Thanks in advance

    Turkey?

Try flying into Bodrum and staying in Gumbet just up the road-fantastic place for a sun hol and more TBH
you could hire a car cheap enough and head up to ephesus and several other places from there too
and theres the halikarnasisus open air club in Bodrum in that colleseum

    ah the memories

    Gary

I had a great hol in Venice 2 years ago. You can have the beach and the city hol at the same time. Went with Ryanair via Stansted and booked hotel online...

It's in my top 3 hols of all time. We were on a budget - and I think the week cost us approx 750 euro each for the week (that 750 incl spending money as well.......)

PM me if you want any more info on this.

Croatia, and trust me on this one, is not expensive.

Flights will get you there for approx €250-€300 in high season on charters, but check out Aer Lingus for their flights on certain days, try and book flights first, rather than book time off from work and then get flights.

Croatia has a tourism infrastructure capable of handling double the capacity it is bringing in at the moment, as it is still recovering from after effects on tourism from 1990's war.....so no shortage of beds.

You will be able to get accommodation on internet for €20-€25 per night in fine B&B's, self catering.

I suggest you hire out a car, if not stay in Cavtat/Dubrovnik area.

Drink is cheap, food is cheap, weather is great, people are sound, country is stunning.

The best holiday you could have... and guess what, you'll be back there next year.

Here's a suggestion of a route i took last year if your up for it. Cheap flight with aerlingus to milan (midweek), train to venice, spend a few nights there. If you stay outside the city the accomodation can be very reasonable and the city itself is only a short ferry trip away. Next get a train to ancona on the east coast where you can catch an overnight ferry to Split in northern croatia. Fabulous city and croatia is very very cheap. you can get a B+B in city centre for EUR20 a night or rent an apartment on the beach about 10 minutes down the coast for ~EUR40 a night. Return by ferry to ancona, train to Milan and home. All in the flights, trains and accomodation cost about E450pp for a 10 day trip, well worth it

MickeyC.... that sounds great for a student/backpacker/singles type adventurer.

Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs would be wrecked doing that, Mrs Bloggs with all her 'neccesities' etc...

Fly into Dubrovnik directly €199 each, and enjoy.

Spent 2 weeks in Dubrovnik last summer. Flew straight there. Used it as a base, and went island hopping. Split is only a 5 hr bus journey up the road. Highly recommend dubrovnik!

hey guys thanks for the info, i must say croatia is topping the list, i checked it out on aer lingus and the flights are 225 each to dubrinok (spelt wong) but im having trouble finding accom. Everywhere on the net says not available however flexable i am with the dates. I need somewhere thats quite busy with a few pubs or clubs around and it must have a pool or else herself wont go for it. She is looking towards turkey, but i want croatia.
    Any suggestions?

    Gary,

No offence, but in your first post you said you've done all the package deals, and want something different.
Dubrovnik has some nice pubs, outside of Dubrovnik it's more 'Italy' with the sort of Cafe and Restaurant culture.
That's not to say it's not lively, because it is, people eating out with nice meal, bottle of wine on terraces so there is a nice buzz.

Some of the bigger hotels have swimming pools .... most don't. There are only a few hotels as such, and they can charge top dollar because there's plenty of couples who just seem to want to bring the 'package' to Croatia.

Hit the internet, and check out self catering ...there's loads of places on the net, but there's thousands of places not on the net .... every second house on the coast offers accommodation, you just look for the 'sobe' sign, knock on the door and ask ..... it's like the Irish B&B scene.

TBH, Seems like herself actually wants the package holiday, just in another destination ... Croatia has far more to it than that.

Check out www.croatiatours.ie and http://www.croatia.hr/home/Default.aspx for details, and check http://www.adriatica.net/home/home_en.htm for accommodation, but remember that most places will not be on it.

P.S When are you going ... July and August very busy, you'll need to try and sort accommodation beforehand, any other time it will be possible to travel ad-hoc.

I went in August and there was no problem with accomodation at all in Dubrovnik. If you go to Dubrovnik there are loads of beaches but they are rocky rather than sandy. I found the pubs and cafes to be ok but the clubs to be a bit crap. In saying that though i'm not much for going to clubs anyway.

As Culchie said it seems like she wants a package!

Go to Morocco. You'll end up saving a fortune as after a week in Agadir you'll never want to go on holiday again.

Well we do want certain aspects of the package holiday, but with something different in a different country, thats why we checked out croatia, but it looks now like its going to be Turkey (which will be just a typical package holiday, i know), so thanks for the advice anyway. Will look into Turkey though...
