Power surge problem

I've just had a power surge which has messed up my computer. I have tried using system restore but the problems still remain. I cannot access the internet, most programs will not open and the computer is running slower than usual. Strangely one of the profiles works much better than the other. Some more info, I am using XP home edition. I had less than 200 mb of free hard disk space when the surge happened so system restore may have been effected.Any suggestions.I have attached an error log from the computer.

OK, looks like your hard drive took the brunt of this, bad blocks all over the place.

Get yourself a new hard disk, install windows again, and transfer as much as you can from the old hard disk to the new one (documents etc...)

Your modem is probably fried too (cannot access the internet) or your NIC (if you have Broadband)

Also, while you're at it, buy a surge protector. You got off lucky.

    Thanks for the advice.
My hard drive appears to be mostly intact as i can access all my data. I still can't access the internet and it still crashes alot. I think i'll try and reinstall internet explorer or XP.

How do you know it was a power surge?

Have you run any diagnostics on the HD?

Modems and network cards are the first to go alright.
