How much does it cost to get internal and external doors hung? I'm under the impression it's a bit expensive

To hang and lock an internal door, 3 brass hinges, standard mortice lock, you are probably looking at 1 1/2 to 2hours maximum. Based on that I would say internal doors about 45 euro's a door, from your local chippy doing a nixer on a Saturday afternoon. Of course if he breaks a chandelier, or knocks a lump out of your wall, handling the door, thats down to you.

Professional contractors would charge more, but they come with insurance and guarantees against such problems. So you get what you pay for.Pay peanuts and you will probably get monkeys.

Front and back doors would be considerably more expensive, due to security locks and fittings, letter boxes, knockers, spyholes ect.

    Hi Kadman,

I think you may be a tad on the light side with the estimated cost, I would be inclined to agree if the cost was based on second fixing in a new build.

Remove the existing door, line up the new door to the ope preferably working to the existing butt hinges.

Assuming the ope is square ???????? (as if) ;) shoot the door to suit the ope, fit the locks to suit the existing receiver clean up (hopefully).

Dang I would want the 45 for the typing :)

I think around 100.00 > 150.00 for one door, a second shouldn't cost much more than 20 > 30 extra because the chippy is there with all his tools and no extra travelling time etc.

    Hi Rooferpete,

And there's me trying to drum up a bit of business for Rookad enterprises, offering cheap door fitting, and you go and scare 'em off 150E for one door , I wish :D:D

Granted for a one door only fit, you would have to charge more. But I always found that you were more often required to fit at least 3 , plus saddles. I used to fit for a well known door producer, and could manage 4 doors refit, and saddles in a day. That included removing the old door, hinges, receivers, saddle. And refitting all new, and clean up. But I was properly kitted out with, hinge jig, router, for lock ,hinges, and a good vacuum cleaner for extraction, and good cleanup.

I suppose its the " get what you pay for scenario ", pay top money and you get top quality, go cheap and keep your fingers crossed.

I know a chippy who claimed to have hung 22 flush doors in one day. I said it was impossible to hang that number right. No problem he said, shoot the door for 3/8 freedom all round, sink all the hinge into the door, and hammer the screws into the door and frame. Thats when I fainted

When i was on the sites Kadman, there used to be group of chippys who were the bees knees. One fella did the doors, other did the skirtings&door stops plus stairs. The fella who did the doors would hang 12 doors plus front and back(animal to go). They would between them 2nd fix a house in a day.Done mine in half a day,but there was 3 of them then.

Lets all hold our DIY saws up in honour to the GOOD chippys.... :D

Is that just hanging, or locking as well
Would that be flush doors, already morticed, and two hinges, and door stops.
Thats one every 30 minutes, totally finished . No way.

    @Kadman

Actually now that i think back the door stops were only tacked on by the other chippy so that the other fella could make sure the door stops were square.Yup i used to look at him doing a whole door, from hinges to barreling out the lock and putting lock in.The doors were the four panel pressed grained doors.

Then once the doors were hung he would nail home the door stop.

They were a great team from trim. They done most if not all of the site i was on for over 7years.

They used to drop back of a friday doing the 3rd fix, door handles, bath panels etc.

    Kadman,

What am I going to do with you ?

230 emails later and you still insist on the bulk sell em fast sell em cheap marketing, how many times do I have to say it, RooKad don't do cheap :D:D

Just kidding as usual, but the 150 is not far out when you take an extra 3 doors at 30, almost the survey fee :)

I was helping an old time carpenter many moons ago, he would drive the screws in about half way with the hammer and being real mod he would finish with the Yankee screwdriver :)

One day the customer walked in and asked in a not so nice way "What's the screwdriver for ?" without missing a beat chippy replied "for taking the screws out" :D

    Mad m

The old third fix trick eh ? :D:D

That was savage progress no doubt, I wonder would the doors have passed the Clerk of Works old rule, space all around for an old penny to move but not rattle ? ;)

There were no €12.00 throw away saws back then :) maybe we should let them rest in peace ;)

    Hi All
Is there a specification on the gap under the door to allow the balancing of the rooms around the house for a Heat Recovery system as each room has its own supply either extractor or supply
    Thanks
