Win Service pack 2 with Dell dimension 4600

Hi maybe most of you are already aware of this, but I thought I'd post this as a warning anyway.

My desktop is a Dell Dimension 4600 and when I installed Service pack 2 my pc would hang at the welcome screen and I could not log on. When I searched the net to see what my problem was it turns out I should have downloaded a BIOS update from Dell's site. Probably serves me right for not checking out everything before I installed SP2 :(

Thats is a very odd thing, having to do a BIOS update to install a service pack. First I've heard of this. Contact Dell and ask them.

That doesn't seem right. Generally hangs are to do with software, not hardware (and BIOS might as well be hardware)

With Dell, anything could happen, just give them a call (or go online [i've been brainwashed!])

I've had the complete opposite experience. All bluescreens/hangs I've had with modern Windows releases (2k / XP) have always been hardware related.
