Komplett.ie have 2 video cards that im intrested in. Both are AGP cards, the price of the x800XL is 350euro and the 6800GT is 385euro.

Which one would you get of these 2 ?

    And

Or is it worth waiting for something else ?

Tough one. Both are very good cards. The 6800 GT has shader 3.0 support which the X800XL does not. Nice prices as well.

The GT does have the advantage when you really start to crank up the detail and eye candy though especiall at higher res.

If there is only €35 in the diff I would nearly say get the GT.

Bare in mind though ATI are announcing their next gen in june so new line up of cards this summer they claim will be x2 as fast as this gen.

R520 will seemingly have between 24-32 pipelines. (will wait and see myself)

If you really need to buy now do and be happy in what you buy.

But if you can wait a while do: just to see how the next gen pans out and wait for the price drops ;-)

Have a Powercolor X800Xl and its class. They rank slightly below some 6800GT - Got a score of 5056 on 3DMARK05 which is higher than some 6800's.
Had a similar delima - wanted the 6800GT but the cash is the prob so got this one instead. The one you picked is the slowest bar the x800xl saphire standard too my knowledge.

EDIT: just noticed they are AGP mine is PCI-Express

Cant make my mind up. Have a good system at the moment so i dont need a video card right away. Maybe wait and c whats around the cornor, even 350euro to me is alot of money at this time.

I bet when BF2 comes along the week after i will def have a new card. But i just would love to have either of them cards now!!

Hhhmmm you only have a 2600xp. The newest cards really do want a very beefy cpu to get the most out of em.

Your current rig is dacent. But with that cpu are you going to get the most out of a high end gfx card?

The only real bottle neck i can see with your box is the cpu. Gfx card is fine. I have a 9800 np myself and it still is doing the business.

Found it! Have a read and see what you think. It's a cpu scaling analysis on how cou affects gfx card performance.

Will check out that web site.

Yeah i know its just a 2600 but i have it running at 2500mhz "well allmost" from its stock which is about 1900mhz not sure what its stock is exactly.

So if i work it out my chip is running at like a Amd3700+, someone might be able to work it out exactly.

Personally I think you should look at the possability of going Amd 64 939.

€300-350 is a very good mobo with an agp slot and an amd 64 3200 + winny.

    Went form a 2400xp , 512mb pc2700 and a 9800 np to

    amd 64 3500 +(939), 1 gig pc 3200 (bog) and 9800np.

Performance in games has been much much better. Especially hl2/CSS, Dawn of War and far cry.

Frames for hl2 on my old box for the video stress test was 45. With my new box 100-110.

Cpu makes a big difference. Especially with the amount of physics and AI in games these days.

I think a cpu upgrade will make more differance to you in the long run than a new gfx card.

Re-using the 9800np gives you more time to wait for the next gen and as most of the current market is still agp: all the latest high end will make their way to AGP eventually( at least for the next round....)

Or you could just wait a while and get a new amd 939 cpu and mobo + pci express gfx card after the next gen gfx cards are out.
