Any of you good folks know how to work with Layers in Photoshop?

I want to create two layers one green and one blue on top of each other and have them fade into each other in the centre. Anyone any ideas how to do this? or create a similar effect?

    Thanks

    Open the layers panel.

Click new layer on the menu of the layers panel.

    fill that blue.
Create another and fill it green.

Set the opacity of the layer to 50% for example.

    For starters.
What do you mean about fading in on the centre?

    Thanks Man!

what im trying to do is this... right think of a rectangle black on one side and yellow on the other but split in the centre (diagonally) at an angle and then faded, but like the colours have been smuggled together where they meet in the centre.
    :)
    any idaes?

Sounds like you want to do a gradient mask to me if so try:

Depending on your knowledge of photoshop this is a little complicated so for each step check through the help file to show you where the buttons are

    1. create your layers as suggested in the last mail black then yellow on top.

    2. with your top layer selected choose from the menu
Layer - Add layer Mask - Reveal All

    3. select the gradient tool

    4. reset your colours to black and white (d - shortcut)

    5. draw a gradient from the centre to just left of centre.

    6. experiment a bit!

Masks work as non distructive layer that hides the areas that are black and shows the areas that are white so a gradient mask will reveal the layer as a gradually fading from the centre.

An even easier way to do above is to just set your foreground and background colours to whatever you want, i.e black and yellow.
    Select the gradient tool.
Then in the colour slection box for the gradient select foreground to background and draw your selection diagonally.
