Does anyone else get these irritating popup windows that seem immune to being killed?

I get it, but I can definitely kill it. Tis a pop-under. Uses a nasty little trick of javascript to avoid pop-up blockers. Hopefully someone will develop a blocker for them soon enough.

I presume by pop under you mean that it appears behind the window your currently viewing?

I get them too but only on one well known site that deals with the thorny issue of no cd patches and the like.

I can kill them no problem when I close the main window.Using Firefox as well by the way.

Never seen this. Add *.casalemedia.com to adblock though should get rid of this particular one though, and all others from casalemedia.com

Interim solution I know but it's good to keep adblock up to date with ad servers anyway.

Never got these. Looks like some Java based spyware as the default settings in firefox block popups.

Best to check the security settings under Tools>Options>Web Features>popups for allowed sites

For the umpteenth time: Java is not the same as Javascript!

Oh, and you can blame the boys at Macromedia as well, for some reason they thought it might be a good idea if Flash was able to spawn browser windows

I was not blaming it on Javascript.

I have spoted a few sites that call up Sun Java on my machine for unexplained reasons.

There have been postings and press reports of spyware now being developed for Jave where it used to just use the less secure active X.

Anytime I have seen that, I usually notice it has to do with some idiot designer deciding to use Java for button roll-over effects

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that, and didn't think it would be possible with the Sun VM... My appologies.
